Pairings: Parental!Roy x Ed, Edwin. Human!Al
Disclaimer: I do not own Fullmetal Alchemist, nor do I own the idea of the vampire sickness 'Polymorphic Hemophilia', which is owned and was invented by Bethsada, which I learned about while playing their awesome game "The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion". I just own the plot .
Chapter 1: Bitten, Hospitalized, Sick
"Sir." Riza Hawkeye stood in Colonel Roy Mustang's office door. She held a phone in her hand.
Mustang looked up wearily from his dreaded paperwork. He raised an eyebrow. "Yes, Hawkeye?"
"It's the hospital," she stated bluntly.
"Fullmetal?" Mustang inquired.
Hawkeye nodded affirmative.
"What did he do this time," Mustang said with great exaggeration in his voice.
"Alfonse woke up this morning, he was pale and coughing. He collapsed shortly after breakfast, he didn't touch his food. Right now, he has a high fever, fast heartbeat…" Hawkeye trailed off. "That's all they'd tell me. They asked for you."
Mustang sighed in a bored manner. "I'll be there in half an hour."
The doctor, a tall, stern, man with dark brown hair stood outside of the room Ed was supposedly in. He was speaking quietly with a nurse. Upon seeing Mustang arrive, he broke off conversation with the nurse and turned to Mustang.
"Colonel Mustang?" the doctor asked.
"The one and only," Mustang answered in a bored tone. "What did the twerp do this time?"
The doctor frowned. Why, of all people, was this particular colonel here? The man was famous for his constant boredom and dangerous anger… one snap of his fingers and he was a pyromaniac. Great.
"It was nothing he did. What he's… contracted, if you will, is a very serious matter."
The doctor sighed. "It's a bit complicated. What he's contracted is known as Polymorphic Hemophilia, or quite simply, Vampire's Disease. It was given to him maybe two nights ago. We found bite marks on the back of his neck, along his hairline."
"Vampire's… Disease…?" Mustang stammered stupidly.
"Yes. Very little known amongst the public. In all of the world, there are maybe 100 vampires."
"Yes, Colonel Mustang. Vampires."
Pale and unblinking, Mustang leaned backwards and stared into the hospital room. Ed lay on a bed at the far end of the room. The lights were off and the windows closed, curtains drawn over them. The boy that lay on the bed was ashen, and when Mustang stepped a bit closer, his eyes flashed open. The famous golden eyes that so many had taken hope in were a muddy shade of brown, on their way to turning red.
Ed's voice was harsh when he answered, but it wasn't violent or angry. Just tired, from lack of use, from illness, from the dying process…. When he opened his mouth to reply, Mustang saw long, elegantly curved fangs. "Yes, Mustang?"
Mustang dryly swallowed. "You okay..?"
Ed's reddish-brown eyes flashed. "What do you think? I'm going to die, come back to life, and have to live forever. On top of which, I'll be a monster that can never see the light of day again. Would you be okay?"
Mustang blinked. "I don't… quite know, Ed."
The doctor knocked lightly on the door, and Ed shifted. The doctor cleared his throat and beckoned to Mustang.
"We weren't able to find any record of his family. Do you know any who are related to him?"
"His parents are dead, and he has only one sibling, the boy who brought him in."
The doctor frowned. "You do realize that he is going to require constant supervision for a while, right? He's going to face some drastic changes to his daily life. He's going to need more than a younger brother to support him."
"Then I'll take him. I'll take both of them."
"It could pose a problem. He referred to you as a bastard for most of the time he was conscious. It might be dangerous if he really doesn't like you that much."
"I don't care. He may not have ever liked me, but I, as his superior officer, care enough to at least ensure that he's going to be alright."
The doctor thought for a moment, then nodded his consent. "I'll go get the paperwork. Wait until it's dark to take him home. Also, take this and look it over."
The doctor handed him a stapled stack of papers. Bold black letters across the first page stated "Vampirism: A Practical Guide for the Affected."
Heh, I've had dreams about this for weeks, Ed as a vampire… There's gonna be some romancey drama between Ed and Winry, some lovely blood spatters, some parentalness, some amnesia, some Mustang-hating Ed, some Al-Is-Mad-At-Ed-ness,… sounds like fun, right? Am I right?
:) Please R&R :)
