Author's Note: Well, this is a little experiment of mine. I've been messing around with this type of writing and I'd really like to see what everyone thinks. This is an audio-only fic, which means there's no description, only dialogue and sounds, as if you can hear everything that's happening, but not see it. The goal is, to see if everyone could imagine what was happening without me actually writing it. I had fun writing this, and I hope it makes sense. Enjoy!
The Sound of Glass
"Oh come on Fred, please, I can't handle this right now."
"You can never handle it, you never want to handle it. " A snort of disgust and a brief pause. "So let's hear it."
Tiredly. "Hear what?"
"The reason you missed our dinner date. I'd like to hear it, I'm sure it's a good one."
"You know, Fred, you can be a real jerk. Especially when you've been drinking." Footsteps. "I'm tired, I'm going to bed."
"Sure, Faith, I'm the jerk. At least I'm here to be a jerk. At least I actually care enough to try, but you...all you care about is your fucking job."
Coldly. "You know, I've loved to argue about this with you, but its just going to lead to another pointless fight about Bosco, so I'm---"
The sound of a glass hitting the table. "Bosco! I swear to God if I hear that name one more time---"
"He's my partner, Fred, what do you want me to say?" Angrier. "For Christ's sake, just leave him out of this."
"Why? I mean, he's never left out of anything in your life. He might as well join in our fights too!"
A quiet sigh. "I really don't want to do this right now, Fred, it's been a long day."
"Oh, so you noticed?" Harsh laughter. "Tell me the truth, Faith, what's really going on between you and Bosco? There has to be something, I mean, what, are you fucking him or something? Because---" A slap echoes.
Low and dangerous. "That's enough, Fred. You're drunk and you don't know what you're saying. I'm going to forget you even mentioned that."
"Well, I'm not!" A hand on fabric. "It's the truth, that's why you won't talk about." Shouting. "I've had enough!" Glass shatters followed by a thump and a small cry.
Frightened. "Fred, stop! What the hell do you think you're-" The sound of something heavy connecting with flesh. A choked cry of pain. And another.
Whispered and strained. "Please, Fred, put down the baseball pat, we can talk about this!"
Flatly. "I don't think so, Faith."
A scream. "Fred!"
Wood crashing and splintering and loud voices. "POLICE!"
"Don't drop it, asshole, because I'd love to shoot you."
The sound of the bat hitting the floor.
A small voice. "Bosco? What...?"
"Are you alright? What did he do to you?"
"I'm okay, just..."
"It's alright now, Faith." Harshly. "Hands behind your back, you fucking bastard." The tinkle of handcuffs. "Take him, Sully."
A gun holstered.
"I'm okay, really, it's not too bad." Swift intake of breath.
"Jesus, he beat you with a fucking baseball bat." Another string of curses. Crunching glass and a harsh grunt.
"You son of a bitch, if you ever touch her again…" Another painful grunt.
A plea. "Bosco, enough…please." Silence.
"Get this piece of shit outta here."
"How did you know?"
Quietly. "Car wouldn't start so I badgered Sully into giving me a lift home in his squad. Central called it in while I was with him." A breath…"If I hadn't been with him…"
"It's okay, Faith, I'm here now. Everything's going to be alright." Movement. "Come on, you need to get checked out."
"I…" Swallow. "Bos, I…I'm afraid."
Silence, and then…
"I know, but I'm here, aren't I?" Softer. "I would never let anything happen to you, Faith."
A whisper. "I know." A small pause. "Bos?"
"Don't leave me tonight…please?"
"I won't, I'll be right here, beside you, just like always."
A door closes.
