Here's the first part of the one shot I've written for fandom fundraisers. Part 1 was written for the Fandom4LLS fundraiser. Enjoy Marineward.
Stephenie Meyer owns Twilight. I just made Edward a Marine and Bella a devoted fiancée.
Every day I launch myself down the stairs and into the foyer of the small home I own with Edward to see if a letter is there waiting for me. We'd met at a bar one night and hit it off straight away. He was twenty-four; I was twenty-one when we met. We were due to be married in a few short weeks when he returned from service in Afghanistan.
You see, Edward is my fiancé but first and foremost he is a Marine. Sergeant Edward Anthony Cullen with the United States Marine Corps. He was gone from our home months at a time on tours. He'd been to Iraq and Afghanistan, and by some miracle he had always come home to me in one piece. I prayed for that every day and thankfully for the last eight years my prayers had been answered, but I wasn't stupid. I knew that in a blink of an eye, in just one visit it could all be over. Instead of Edward walking through that door, I'd be opening it to bad news. I wouldn't be welcoming him home and have him take me in his arms. I'd be standing over his grave, weeping at the loss of the love of my life. I'd hear the shots being fired and be handed the flag of our nation folded in a triangle by his comrades. I'd watch his body be lowered into the ground. Earth to earth, dust to dust, ashes to ashes.
As my foot hit the bottom step of our stairs, Jake, the husky Edward had bought me just before his first tour after we'd moved in together bounded over to me. "Hey Jake. You missing Daddy?"
I couldn't help the single tear that broke free and Jake jumped up. It was like he knew I was hurting and wanted to hug me. "Thank you Jake."
I freed his gigantic paws from my shoulders and set him on the ground. "Let me check the mail and I'll get you some food big guy."
Jake whined before trotting off and I unlocked the front door and checked for mail. The box was full and I scanned through the envelopes hoping to spot Edward's distinctive hand writing.
My face split into a grin and I ran into the house, ripping the envelope open as I did. These letters were my connection to the man I loved. I hadn't seen him for three months, not since his last R&R for two weeks. As much as I loved having him home, even for a short two weeks, I hated the goodbyes. They broke me and him every time.
Edward wrapped his strong arms around me, his chin resting on my hair. "Baby, I love you so much."
"I love you too, Edward."
Edward's arms disappeared from my back and his strong, muscular hands framed my face. "I'll be back before you know it and then… then me and you are getting married and we're going to grow old together, have loads of babies, and rabbits and a dog."
I snorted. "We already have one of those and I'm afraid you're stuck with Jake for a while yet."
Edward shrugged. "Well, I quite like the little tyke, not that he's so little anymore."
I smiled and Edward did too. "There, that right there-" Edward paused and swept his thumb over my smiling lips. "is the image I'm going to keep with me for the next three months."
I sighed and ran my finger over the lip of Edward's hat. "I love you."
"I love you too and I'll see you soon Bella."
Edward's lips caught mine and we stood on the tarmac saying our farewell the only way we allowed ourselves to. We never said goodbye to one another. I could feel my tears falling as we kissed. Edward broke away and placed his forehead against mine. He wiped his thumbs over my tears before kissing my forehead. "I will always be with you, in here."
Edward placed his hand on my chest, over my heart and he squeezed my hand before swinging his bag over his shoulder and walking away. As he stood at the top of the stairs he turned and waved, blowing a kiss to me. I smiled as I caught it. Edward returned my smile, mouthing. "That's my girl."
I hugged my arms around myself and watched as he disappeared in the plane. I was stood next to Angela, she was Ben's girlfriend and one of my closest friends. Ben and Edward had joined the Marines at the same time. They'd immediately hit it off and were both from Chicago, I'd met Angela through Edward and we were close. Helping each other get through when we missed our Marines.
I watched as the door was lifted and stood there until the plane was no longer in my view. Tears silently streaming down my eyes as I said a pray for his safety before turning to Angela, we said nothing just wrapped our arms around one another and walked to our cars together.
As we reached our cars we hugged each other. "I think I'm going to miss Edward even more now I'm planning the wedding."
Angela smiled and squeezed me once. "You have me and your family. We'll help you through Bella."
"Thank you Angela."
We said our goodbyes and headed into our cars. I waved to Angela as I pulled out my space. I looked up to the sky once more. Already counting the days down to Edward's return and our wedding.
I traced my hands over Edward's elegant script as I walked into the kitchen. I sat down at the breakfast bar with my letter.
I don't have much time as we're about to head out. I hope you're coping well and you have no idea how much I miss you baby. I look at your picture every night before I go to sleep and I just wish that I was home, in our bed, in our quiet, suburban street with Jake lying across the bed and stubbornly refusing to move. God, I miss you and my parents and Alice so much. How is she? How are Jasper and Ava? I can't wait to see my gorgeous niece when I'm home. I've missed her so much too and I can't wait for us to have our own children, but not yet. One day when I'm home all the time. I want you to tell me everything that's happening in your life. And when I say everything I mean, everything.
I have to go now baby, but I love you so much it hurts and in just forty-two days I'll see you again and in forty-nine you'll be my wife.
Love you always,
I hugged Edward's letter to my chest, closed my eyes and I could just picture him. Sat on his bunk in the torturing Afghan heat, writing this note before heading out on patrol. He'd tear his hand through his hair frequently; bite his pen and his lip. A habit he picked up from me in the years we'd been together. I pulled the old twenty's style case I kept all his letters in off the shelf and kissed his signature before putting the letter back in the envelope and placing it inside with the others. I didn't know how many were in here. This vintage case housed every letter I'd ever received from Edward. From the very first one I'd received during his first tour in our relationship to the very last.
Jake butted my calf and I jumped down to feed him. With the time since he'd sent the letter taken off we had just twenty days to wait until we were together. I poured Jake's food into his mammoth bowl as the doorbell rang. I ran to get it and pulled the door open to find Edward's sister, Alice on the doorstep with her husband Jasper and their three year old daughter, Ava who threw herself at my legs.
I smiled and picked Ava up. "Hey sweetie, you still driving your Mom up the wall?"
Ava pouted and shook her head before holding her arms out to me. I lifted her and settled her on my hip. "Miss Uncie Ed."
I hugged Ava to me. "I do too. We all do but we'll see him soon and then you," I paused and dug my fingers into her sides, "are going to be the most beautiful flower girl there ever has been."
Ava squealed as I walked into the house with Alice and Jasper following. "Speaking of dresses I have yours and Mommy's upstairs."
Ava squealed again. "YAY! Can we go try? Do you have yours?"
I nodded. "Yes, hanging up by yours and Mommy's but mine is a surprise so no one can see it but me and Mommy."
Ava pouted and widened her eyes. "But I wanna see."
At that moment Jake saw Ava, he ran over and nudged her foot with his nose. "JAKE!"
Ava squirmed out my grip, forgetting all about dresses and threw herself at Jake, who turned his face toward her and I could've sworn he was smiling. I turned to Alice and Jasper. "Fancy some breakfast? I still haven't eaten."
Alice nodded. "Sure, we just had something quick before we came over. Have you heard from Edward?"
I grinned. "Yep, got a letter from him today. He's doing good and missing Ava like crazy."
Alice smiled. "She misses him too. She always asks us when he'll be back."
Tears sprung to Alice's eyes and I hugged her small frame. "We'll see him soon. Esme rang me last night. Everything is coming together for the wedding."
"Yep, they've got everything sorted. Seth is such a slave driver, those poor assistants of his! I don't know how they cope."
I laughed, it was true. Seth was mine and Edward's wedding planner, Edward and I wanted an outdoor wedding so Seth had raided the Chicago Park District website for locations, he'd found the perfect place for us and I'd fallen in love with it, as had Edward when we'd shown him the location when he was home for R&R.
Seth drove us to the park and I was so nervous I kept biting my lip. Edward stroked his fingers over my palm. "I'm sure I'm going to love it, baby. You know what we wanted."
I nodded as Seth parked up and led us to our wedding and reception venue. "Here we are darlings, enjoy."
I watched as Edward's eyes roamed over the space as Seth explained everything to him. "So you and your lovely bride will be here, the Buckingham Fountain will be in the background at dusk when you say yours vows and seal the deal. We'll then move over to the Tiffany Garden where your wedding reception will take place under a plastic topped marquee so that you can see the stars while your reception gets under way. Bella told me you loved the stars and I thought that would be an awesome way to keep them a part of the ceremony. What do you think?"
I hadn't taken my eyes off Edward the entire time Seth told him what I'd already heard. I watched for any hint of how he felt but Edward had a damn good poker face. All I could see was his profile as he looked at the fountain and then he turned to me, taking my other hand in his.
I nodded and bit my lip; Edward chuckled and swept his finger over my bottom lip. I instantly let go and looked up at him, waiting for his reaction.
"I adore it. It's perfect for us."
I blew out the breath I hadn't even known I was holding and hugged Edward. I was so happy that he loved it to. I'd picked it with only him in mind. I knew what the stars meant to him when he was away on tours. They were one of the things that kept him sane on those long nights alone, without his family near him.
"Although, I think you'll have to keep Seth away from Edward in his uniform on the day. You know what he's like, he was bad enough just seeing a picture of Edward."
Seth had been a state when he'd asked, while we were at Esme's house to see a picture of Edward. Esme, being Esme bought out a picture of him in his full Marine uniform. Seth, bless his heart near enough had a coronary on Esme's couch and we feared we'd needed to call an ambulance to set him right. He'd had no qualms on telling me how he would be working his charm with the aim of sending Edward gay by the time we got married. He'd had no such luck, much to his distress. I pictured Edward in his uniform and as soon as I did I regretted it. When I thought of him like that during his tours it bought reality crashing down around my ears and that's just what it did now. My face fell and I had to bite my lip to stop myself from crying. I didn't want to cry in front of Ava. She, of all of us needed normalcy. Her and Edward were so close that when we took her out people often mistook him as her father.
Alice glanced over at Ava checking she was still busy with Jake and laid her hand on mine as Jasper wrapped an arm around my shoulders. "Hey, he'll come back to us. He'll come back and he'll be in one piece. You'll see. In a few weeks he'll be sat in this kitchen with you."
"I know Alice, it's just… God, it's just so hard."
I swiped my hands over my face. "God, he's your brother and I'm acting like the only one who is affected by him being away on tours. I'm so selfish!"
Jasper stood and wrapped his arm around me. "Bella, shush. You're not being selfish, not at all."
I patted his hand. "Thank you Jasper. I just… it just drives me a bit crazy."
"Bella, it drives us all crazy. Me, you, Mom, Dad. Even Jasper. We all get affected by it."
I hugged Alice. "You're right."
"When am I not?"
I rolled my eyes. "Sure thing Alice."
A while later Alice, Jasper and Ava left only for Rose, my best friend since high school and her husband Emmett to arrive soon after. Despite being able to cope better with being alone after Edward had been gone a few weeks my friends still felt like they had to visit all the time. I would never forget how much Edward had made me understand when I told him this after he'd returned from his first tour since we'd moved in together.
I lay in bed next to Edward, my thigh resting on top of his, my head pillowed on his defined chest. "Want to know another benefit of you being home?"
Edward's fingers trailed lazily over my spine. "Aside from the awesome reunion sex?"
I nodded as Edward's fingers tickled the base of my back causing goose pimples to break out on my skin. "Our doorbell hasn't rung once."
Edward laughed. "What?"
I moved to lie on my side facing Edward. "I love them so much and I know they worry about me being alone but every day, multiple times a day our friends and family would visit. I mean I know they're worried but I felt like screaming sometimes. When you first left I felt like I didn't have time to breathe."
Edward moved closer to me, stroking my hair out my face. "Baby, they worry that's all and this is our first time apart since we bought a house. They don't want you to feel alone and eventually they'll find the right balance," Edward paused and smiled his gorgeous crooked smile. "If they don't just set Jake on them. Problem solved."
I snorted as I placed my hand on Edward's meat tag, the only thing that remained on him that would tell you he was a Marine. His meat tag was a tattooed copy of his vital information, should anything happen to him. "Edward, Jake's the tamest Husky ever. He couldn't hurt a fly."
Edward rolled his eyes. "Knew I should've had him trained by a Drill Instructor rather than you. You never could resist cute and fluffy."
"That include you?"
Edward smirked and rolled over until I was under him, kissing his way down my neck. "I'm gonna make you pay for that."
"Earth to Bella."
"What? Sorry, I zoned out."
Rose snorted. "Imagining sexy times with Mr. Marine?"
"Rose, one that's her fiancé you're talking about and two, hello, I'm standing right here. I can hear everything you're saying."
Rose shrugged. "If you don't like it you know where the door is."
I couldn't help but laugh. "Rose, I've told you before hands off my Marine. Get your own."
Emmett huffed and turned on the TV, Rose slided up to him. "Love you, baby."
I knew Em well enough to know this was a show. His hint of a smile gave the game away. He knew Rose was never serious about her Edward attraction. Emmett was her world; they'd met when we were nineteen. He was the same age as Edward and owned a bar with his friend Riley – the very same bar I'd met Edward at.
Rose and I sat in our usual spot at the bar. Rose was my wing-woman for the night, I was sick of being single. I'd had a few relationships and hook ups but I wanted what Rose had. We decided to avoid the clubs because they held all the sleazeballs. The bar was a winner because we got free booze and Emmett liked to keep an eye on us when we were out. Being a bar owner he knew what men were like and wanted to make sure we were okay. Tonight, it seemed that even Emmett was joining in on the finding a man for me game and I was worried by how enthusiastic he was about it.
"I've found him."
Rose and I rolled our eyes. "That's the fiftieth time you've said that."
"No, really. He is so your type."
Riley laughed from behind him. "Emmett, check your pants. I think you may have just lost your balls."
Emmett shot Riley the bird and pointed over Rose's shoulder toward the door. "Don't fucking point at him Emmett."
Emmett glared at Rose. "Well how in the hell else are you meant to know who he is?"
Riley let out a low whistle. "Fuck, I'd turn gay for him."
"Riley, you are gay!"
Riley snorted and I turned to follow where Emmett's finger had pointed. Stood near the door was a guy who was way out of my league. He was wearing a plain white shirt and black jeans. His shirt showed off his muscular chest and his biceps! Fuck, they were huge. His face was painstakingly handsome. Angular and perfect, his jaw square and his nose perfectly straight. He took a sip of his beer and licked his lip as he released the beer bottle. Fuck. My eyes travelled over his face and hair. His hair was short and bronze in colour. He suddenly looked up and his eyes met mine. I quickly turned back to face Emmett. "Fuck, he saw me."
"Sweetie, he didn't see you. He saw you eye-fucking him."
I picked up a paper coaster and threw it at Riley's head. "Not helping."
Riley's normally snarky comeback didn't appear as his eyes flicked to just over my shoulder. "What?"
Riley didn't say anything but just stood staring. "Seriously Riley, what the fuck?"
Riley didn't finish his sentence though as a hand landed on my shoulder. "Miss?"
I turned the stool around to be faced with emerald green eyes. My mouth dried as I realised who they belonged to. It was him, the man who I'd been caught eye-fucking.
"I'm Edward and I was wondering if you'd like to dance?"
I nodded, my ability to talk had left me as I took his hand and let him pull me from the stool. "Her name's Bella, by the way."
I smiled and reminded myself to thank Rose later. "Pleasure to meet you Bella."
And that night had bought us to where we were now. In the time Edward was away from active duty, we'd spent as much time as we could together and I knew I was meant to be with him. At first my parents worried about him being a Marine and being away from home for long bouts at a time but I didn't let that hinder what we had. We wrote to each other constantly and spent so much time together when he was home. I'd be there waiting for him every time at the airport to welcome him home. I still remember the first time he was coming back to me like it was yesterday.
I was stood with Edward's parents and sister. Today Edward was coming home to us after a tour in Iraq. I kept standing on my tip toes for a glimpse of him and the moment I saw him I broke out into a full out sprint. I didn't plan it, it just happened. I needed to be in his arms. Edward's face broke out into a grin as he saw me, he dropped his bag and caught me as I tackle jumped him, wrapping my arms and legs around his body before stealing his hat. I kissed him and never wanted to let go again.
Edward squeezed me. "God, I'm so glad to have you back in my arms baby."
I knew we were being watched by the crowd, awwing over the blissful reunion. "Sorry to attack you but I saw you and just couldn't wait. I had to be back where I belonged."
Edward pulled me closer to him, inhaling my scent and whispering into my ear. "I know exactly what you mean, baby."
That had been the first of many reunions with Edward and every time, just like the first I jumped into his arms and he caught me.
"Jesus Bella. What do we need to do to keep your attention? Strip?"
I rolled my eyes and faked gagged at Emmett. "Sorry, I got a letter from Edward today and things just keep coming back to me. That's all."
Rose smiled sadly. "It must be so hard. I don't know how you've done it Bella."
"It's been hard but I have you guys and Edward's letters keep me going, plus Jake is a great help too."
Right on cue Jake lifted his head onto my knee and looked up at me. I stroked his head. "Thanks Jakey."
Jake's head stayed on my knee as I spoke to Emmett and Rose, the weight and warmth of his body comforting me far more than anyone could realise. After I'd seen Rose and Emmett out, I curled up on the sofa and he did too; laying his head on my thigh this time. I smiled as I looked down at him; he was my silent companion in the days Edward was away from me. He seemed to have an uncanny knack at knowing when I needed his comfort and when I just needed to sit and be alone. I could've sworn he was part human because of the way he just knew.
I picked up my Kindle and decided to read to wile some time away before Seth turned up to go through last minute preparations for mine and Edward's upcoming nuptials. Everything was finally coming together and I couldn't wait to become Edward's wife. I knew our start in married life would be far from conventional but it was all we had known for the whole time we were together. Edward had always said that he would leave not long after he turned thirty-five meaning we only had a few more years before, as long as the God's stayed on our side, we'd be together forever.
The weeks between receiving Edward's letter and his return home went far too slowly for my liking but it got here, mainly with the help of last minute wedding prep that meant I heard the word delicacyness far too many times for my liking. Seth had a habit of inventing words and his new word was delicacyness. I loved the guy though so I put up with it.
Soon enough I was on my way to greet Edward and in one short week we'd be married and setting off for our honeymoon in the baby blue Hudson Hornet Seth had got hold of for our wedding car. It was my surprise for Edward, he loved classic American cars and he knew nothing about this car. I would be arriving at the park in it and we'd be leaving for our honeymoon suite together in it.
I pulled into a space in the airport's parking; ever since Edward and I had gotten serious we were always alone when he came home from tours. It was the way Edward liked it. I would meet him at the airport, we'd go home together and then we'd go to his parents that evening, where Alice, Jasper, Ava, Emmett and Rose would be awaiting his return.
Angela parked next to me and linked her arm through mine. "I can't wait to see Ben."
I smiled. "I can't wait to see Edward either. I've missed him even more with the wedding prep."
"I bet. I can't wait for the wedding. It's going to be a great day."
I nodded and together Angela and I walked to the arrival lounge and stood waiting, side by side for our Marines to return to us. This was the time that always went the slowest. Just five minutes would feel like an absolute eternity, time always seemed to slow down when you wanted something to happen. As the first hat appeared I got hopeful, only once had Edward been first out and that had been our first reunion. More Marine's appeared, some of whom I knew and waved to and finally he was there. He came through the door, head held high scanning the crowd for me and when he found me his eyes lit up and his face split into that gorgeous crooked grin of his. He was home. He was safe.
We ran toward each other and Edward pulled me into his arms, squeezing me until it felt like I had no air left in my lungs. I stole his hat, like I always did and we didn't say a word, we just looked at each and kissed in the middle of the airport. As we broke apart Edward's eyes met mine. "I don't think I've ever missed you as much as I have during this tour."
"Me neither. I think it's because we both knew what was coming at the end of it."
Edward hugged me once before letting go and taking my hand in his. "Let's go home baby."
I looked over my shoulder and waved to Angela, who was hugging Ben and grinning like a Cheshire Cat. I knew how she felt, nothing compared to having our men home. Safe.
Mercifully the journey home was quick and soon Edward and I were home. As soon as we were in the door Jake bounded up to Edward, knocking him over and nudging his nose with Edward's. "Jake, stop!"
Jake stopped and I moved him so Edward could stand up. "I don't think he's ever been that happy to see you."
Edward snorted. "I always think he hates me when I come home because I steal his monopoly over you."
I laughed as Edward pulled me into his arms, whispering. "Come 'ere" as he did. His hands framed my face and his intense green eyes bored into my brown ones. I bit my lip as Edward mouth came down over mine in a searing kiss. My hands moved to the nape of his neck and I fisted his hair as he kissed me. His mouth left mine only to continue their assault on my body down my neck. Edward's fingers traced my arms that were now linked behind his neck.
"Fuck, I've missed you so much Bella."
"Show me how much."
I squealed as Edward lifted me into his arms and ran with me up the stairs to our bedroom, taking the stairs two at a time. He kicked shut our bedroom door and locked to in a bid to keep Jake from ruining this for us as he so often liked to do. Edward gently lowered me onto the bed, kicking his shoes off before settling his body over mine. I could feel how aroused he was already and starting making work of getting his uniform off him while we kissed and whispering things we'd wanted to say to each other in these last few months. We took our time, savouring our touches and every time a part of my skin was revealed Edward took his time before revealing more. Soon enough we lay naked, just looking at each other. Neither of us wanted to look away and neither of us ready to either. I cupped Edward's cheek, sliding my hand down his neck, over his heart, over his abs which I had taken my time worshipping earlier. I moved further south, dragging a single finger over Edward's length, causing him to shudder. "Jesus Bella, I've missed that so much."
I smiled and placed my hand at Edward's pace moving my hand up and down, twisting at the top, my thumb sweeping over his head. Edward's forehead fell against mine, his eyes never leaving mine as my hand moved, his hips matched the movement of my hand and he kissed me. "Fuuuuuuck Bella."
Edward stilled my hand. "I don't want to come until I'm inside you."
I licked my lips and Edward kissed me once on the lips, kissing a trail along my body and then his tongue met the place I had earned for him for so long. His tongue worked me as he pushed two of his long fingers in me, curling and moving in time with his tongue. I didn't want to come yet but as Edward blew against my skin I came undone. His fingers stayed where they were as I came around them. Edward's fingers left me and he lifted my leg onto his shoulder. His eyes met mine as he entered me, no words needed to be said, that'd been said already we just looked at each other as our bodies moved together. I moved my free leg around Edward's waist and held onto his hair as he kissed me.
He moved my hair away from my face and his thumb traced my cheek. "Come with me Bella."
As Edward spoke his thumb found me again, I bit my lip and threw my head against the pillow as his thumb moved in circles. I knew he was waiting out for me. Waiting. This was the way it happened when he returned home. Our eyes met again as Edward stilled above me and we came together.
"I love you so much Bella. I never want to have to leave you again."
I smiled and kissed Edward. "I love you too."
Edward moved to lay beside me, pulling my body to his. His nose nestled in my hair. "Home."
I smiled as Edward's arms circled my waist. This, this right here was home.
I smoothed out the skirt of my dress for the umpteenth time, not that it needed it. It flowed easily over me, the bodice was strapless and gathered with a line of diamantes and once above and below. The fabric wrapped close to my body but the skirt was free flowing and pooled in a perfect circle around my feet.
I looked in the mirror once more, my hair was in a bun, the bun sat at the bottom of my neck and a red rose settled above my ear. I held a bouquet of red roses tied with white ribbon. I took a deep breath as I took in my reflection and turned to take in Alice, Rose, Angela and little Ava. Rose, Alice and Angela wore deep red, strapless dresses, with detailed on the bust. Ava wore a simple white dress with a red sash on which sat a red rose with red ribbon falling from it, in her hand she held the basket that she would be throwing rose petals onto the ground from. I smiled as I turned toward my father in a suit with red waistcoat and tie.
This was it. I was stood in a marquee at the end of the aisle with my father and my closest friends. Today I was marrying Edward. The planning and build up with the help of Alice, Rose, Esme, Angela, my mom and Seth was coming down to this. Right now he was waiting at the bottom of that aisle, by the fountain with his best man, Ben. Ben had chosen to wear the same as my father and Edward, Edward was stood at the end of that aisle in full Marine uniform, his medals proudly on display, the symbol of his rank as sergeant on each of his arms.
Charlie looked down at me with tears in his eyes. "You look so beautiful, baby."
I smiled and kissed his cheek. "Thank you Daddy."
Seth's hand popped through the marquee door. "Oh just look at all the delicacyness in this room."
I rolled my eyes. "Don't make me throw this bouquet at your head."
Seth in typical Seth fashion glared at me. "Just try it sweet and see what happens."
I laughed. Grateful that Seth managed to abate some of the butterflies in my stomach. "Are you ready?"
I nodded as Seth looked over us all. "And you all know your cues?"
Seth chuckled as we answered him in unison in the same exasperated tone. He had taken us through this so many times in the last week I swear I could mark the cues in my sleep. "Well, let's get this show on the road."
With a flourish Seth's head disappeared and the string quartet began to play the wedding march. I hugged each of my girls and Ava was the first to leave and I couldn't help but smile as I heard the chorus of aww's as she appeared, Alice followed her on her cue giving me a smile just before she did and then it was Rose's turn who blew me a kiss as she prepared to leave throw the door that was being held open by Seth's assistant's. They dropped the closing again and I took a deep breath. Charlie kissed my hair and squeezed my hand as he held it in the crook of his arm.
The wedding march reached its crescendo and the opening was pulled back. I stood tall as I walked through arm and arm with Charlie. I felt every face turn toward me but I couldn't tear my eyes away from Edward. He stood there in full uniform, the dusky sky behind him causing the fountain waters to redden and he had his crooked smile in place. As I reached the end of the aisle, Charlie placed my hand in Edward's, kissed my cheek and sat down next to my mother.
Edward smiled down at me. "You look beautiful baby."
"You don't look so bad yourself."
Edward chuckled as the minister began the ceremony. "We're gathered here today to bear witness to the marriage of Edward Anthony Cullen to Isabella Marie Swan. If you know of any reason they should not be joined in matrimony speak now or forever hold your peace. Edward and Isabella have written their own vows for today."
Silence reigned and I smiled at Edward. "Bella, all that I am and all that I have, I offer to you in love and in joy. From this day forward I will love and comfort you, hold you close, prize you above all others, and remain faithful to you all the days of our lives. With this ring we become one and from this day forth I will always be by your side."
A single tear slipped down my cheek as Edward placed my wedding ring on my finger. I took hold of his ring from the pillow Garret held and placed it over the top of his finger. "Edward, our miracle lies in the path we have chosen together. I enter into this marriage with you, knowing that the true magic of love is not to avoid changes, but to navigate them successfully. Let us commit to the miracle of making each day work together. Respecting each other, we commit to live our lives together for all the days to come. I ask you to share this world with me, for good and ill. Be my partner, and I will be yours."
I pushed the ring onto Edward's finger and as soon as we were pronounced married, Edward's lips landed on mine. Edward took my hand and led me down the aisle and into the marquee for our wedding reception. As we entered he turned to face me, cupping my face and placing a single kiss on my lips. "I have never been happier than I am right now."
In what felt like a blink of an eye the reception was over and we and our guests were back outside. Each of us held a red rose that we were to make a wish on and place it in the fountain after this Edward and I would leave in the Hudson Hornet for the honeymoon cabin with its wooden honeymoon suite that Seth had found hidden on the outskirts of Chicago.
Edward and I were to go first and walked up to the fountain hand in hand. I lightly closed my hand around the rose and wished that Edward would always return home to me in one piece. I kissed the rose before placing it in the now still fountain and watching it float away. Edward's joined mine soon after and slowly the rest of our guests rose's joined ours.
Our guest lined up to bid us goodbye and we walked down to the car, confetti being thrown and bubbles blown all around us. I watched Edward's face as we reached the car. His eyes widened and he turned to me. "Is that a Hudson Hornet?"
I nodded. "I know how much you love classic cars and thought this would be perfect for us to leave in."
Edward swopped me by the car and kissed me, not caring that we were surrounded by our guests. "You're amazing baby. This whole wedding was amazing. Thank you for planning this with me in mind."
"You're welcome. I just wanted it to be perfect."
"It is. It's better than perfect."
Edward kissed me once more before opening the passenger door and helping me in; he closed the door behind me and walked to the driver's side, settling in and starting the short drive to the cabin. He stopped the car after ten minutes.
"Edward, what's going on?"
Edward smiled but said nothing. He got out and opened my door, tipping his hat before taking my hand and lifting me out the car.
"I have something to tell you."
"Edward, you're scaring me. What's wrong?"
Edward placed his hands on my waist pulling me closer to him. My hands automatically linked around his neck. "I'm coming home forever. I'm never leaving you again."
My mouth dropped open. "What?"
"This tour was my last. I've resigned so we can start our lives together sooner rather than later. I've been lucky these last few years but that could change in a second and I don't want to leave and never come back so I'm not leaving again. I'm yours forever."
I threw myself at Edward. "God, I'm so happy. I love you so much. So much."
"I love you too baby."
I kissed Edward, tears freely falling down my cheeks. I would never have to say goodbye to him ever again. He was here, by my side for the rest of my life and I couldn't think of a better wedding present from him.
