A/N: LOOK HERE REALLY QUICK. THIS IS COMPLETE PLEASE DO NOT ASK ME TO UPDATE. SO LOOK UP HERE PEOPLE! RAWR. Takes place after 3x09 I was in the mood for some Damon/Caroline so here it is.

You're not the only one

She's never seen Damon with a five o clock shadow before. He looked much older and it confused her. She sat down next to him at the bar.

"Vampire's can grow beards?"

"They don't turn gray, that's all." Damon said. His eyes on the last of his bourbon.

Caroline sighed as she caught the bartender's eye and ordered a diet coke. As she waited for her drink she studied Damon. That spark in his eye was gone and he just looked worn to the bone.

"Tomorrow's my 18th birthday." She said, chewing her bottom lip.

"The first one's always the hardest." Damon said.

"And Elena, Bonnie, Matt, know I'm being down about it, there's nothing positive about it."

Damon shrugged his shoulders, "You're Caroline Forbes. Something positive will happen."

Caroline sighed, "You look tired."

"Haven't slept in awhile."

She knew this, Elena had told her. Elena was handling her own as usual but Stefan had supposedly betrayed them. They had 'let him go' Caroline actually tried to call her former friend; she even left a voicemail but no word.

"You haven't said some witty comment for me to leave, what have you done with the real Damon?"

Damon rolled his eyes and looked at her, "When you're not complaining about your boy drama, you're not annoying."

"Uh thanks Damon." She took a sip of her coke, "When you're not a witty asshole you're not annoying either."

They sat in silence for a moment.

"I know you and Stefan were sort of friends and since I'm the only vampire around…"

"You want to be friends?"

"No, just if you need a vampire to talk to… I'm around."

"Thanks Damon." She smiled.

Another moment of silence.

"Still bummed about tomorrow?" Damon questioned.

"I'm not hiding the fact that I'm upset. I shouldn't have to put a fake smile on my face and tell the world I'm okay. I'm not Elena; I'm not doing that. "

Damon didn't say anything instead he poured half of his bourbon into Caroline's coke. She closed her eyes and shook her head.

"Cheers." Damon chimed as he hit his glass against hers.

"To what?"

"The one thing we have in common."

"What's that?"

"We both love bourbon." He smiled, winked, chugged the rest of glass and stood up. He squeezed her shoulder leaned in and whispered, "You're not the only one."

She twisted her body around on the stool and called out to him, "Hey Damon?"

He turned back.

"I like the beard, good look for you."

He smiled and walked out the door.
