I myself don't exactly enjoy all-dialogue fics, but this just begged to be all dialogue.

So, hopefully, you can look past that bit of the fic and enjoy it.

"Does it ever go away?"

"The pain? No. It stays with you forever and festers in you until you just want to die."

"…That's wonderful, Natalie, thank you."

"But you can't. You've got Lily to take care of."

"Why are you still here then? You and Jackson never had any kids."

"…"

"Sorry, rough subject, huh?"

"At least you have the safe of mind to know that no one murdered Diana."

"Disease murdered her."

"God, Daniel, you can't be mad at disease."

"Sure I can."

"Di wouldn't want that. She'd want you to find Lily a new mother and you a new lover."

"I can't do that."

"Sure you can, people do it all the time."

"They haven't gone through what I have."

"People watch others die of leukemia all the time."

"…."

"Well, I suppose you shouldn't find someone at a strip club tomorrow, but Diana would want you to move on eventually."

"I know… she-she told me that, too. But I didn't want to believe that she…"

"It's hard to—"

"Please don't lean on me."

"Sorry. It's hard to move on, I understand. It took me three years to even think about being in a relationship with anyone but Jackson."

"… You haven't dated anyone since he died. Have you?"

"No. I just said thinking about it took three years."

"It's been five years."

"Don't you think I know when Jackson died? It's kind of hard to forget when the first man who ever made you truly feel like you belonged somewhere was murdered."

"Whoa, Nat, calm—"

"Be glad Diana died knowing she was going to die and being content with it! One minute Jackson was alive and helping me plan the wedding and the next he's dead! Do you know what it's like to come home to the dead body of your fiancé?"

"Natalie—"

"It's not pleasant, not one bit! You were there for her last moments, you knew she was happy! For all I know, Jackson was scared out of his mind! Whoever killed him could've been feeding him lies about me! He could've died thinking I was just like—just like—"

"Hey, calm down. People are staring."

"Sniff."

"Hey, uh, let's not… do that, okay?

"God, Daniel, I'm sorry. This is supposed to be about Diana."

"You're apologizing?"

"Don't make me hit you."

"What?"

"I—"

"No, not you…. Yeah, she's fine! I just, uh, brought up Jackson…. Yeah, whatever, Ian!"

"What did he want?"

"He was asking why you looked so sad."

"It's a funeral for God's sake."

"That's probably why he was asking. You don't usually show emotions for others—Ow!"

"I told you not to make me hit you!"

"I thought you were joking!"

"I was until you said that."

"Lily's watching you know. You're being a bad influence!"

"I'm a wonderful influence, especially for that poor girl. With you as a father who knows what's going to happen to her?"

"Psh. I'm an awesome dad, thank you."

"Right. Would that be because you take after yours?"

"Yup."

"Wonderful."

"…"

"Oh, what's wrong with you now?"

"… Why are you talking to me?"

"Well, I figured you needed someone who could empathize with you."

"You hate me."

"I do not."

"You make it seem like you do."

"Well, I don't."

"…"

"…"

"I don't hate you either."

"Well, that's nice seeing as that's what you and Amy and the Madrigals want."

"For us not to hate each other?"

"In the general terms referring to our entire family, yes."

"…"

"…"

"…"

"Well, I think Ian is calling me over for something…. Yes, I'm quire sure he is."

"…"

"You can handle this, Dan."

"…"

"I guess I'll, uh, see you later then."

"Nat?"

"Yes?"

"Thank you."

"You're welcome – and don't called me 'Nat'."
