Hello again! Yes, me! Don't worry I am NOT dead, I just am a big procrastinator… and my family likes to take long vacation, who knew? Well I am happy to say that I have updated! And because I am back and its SUMMER I will update a lot quicker, hopefully. Any who, more characters meet up in this story, sorry if the story so far has sounded a bit rushed, I just really want these characters to meet and then the story and everything can being. Sadly that won't happen until a few more chapters. But here is a chapter! Hope you like it! I took more time editing this one rather than my normal write and post thing. I want this story to be good! So here it is!
Chapter 3: What's happening
Tanner and Thomas
The two brothers sat in silence. Tanner drove, seeing how his brother was too hysterical to drive. Thomas kept looking for a radio station trying to see if he could get anything on, it did not work. Every station had static. Thomas slummed back down in his seat, playing with his thumbs. As they drove on, they past car wreck after car wreck, some of them had people in them, and some did not, but each getting worse as the time grew on. This seemed to get Thomas even more aggravated. Tanner had to agree, he was a mess himself after hearing everything, but he was always the calm one, the one that could go through anything and come out unscarred, but this. This was something totally unreal, and seeing all the car accidents and fires only made things worse.
"How can they not even notice?" Thomas said bring Tanner back to reality
"Who?" Tanner ask swerving out of the way of the stopped car that was in front of him
"Everybody, I mean look at everything that is going on, and it seems like nobody has even notice."
"Thomas listen, I am sure something is going on alright, people just don't disappear"
"No, there are ways"
"Really? How, did you think aliens too them?" Tanner joked has he got off the highway
" No!... well, I don't know maybe." Thomas mumbled looking out his window
"Listen to yourself Thomas. Aliens? You're the smart one of the two of us and you believe aliens took these people, people that could have just oh I don't know, drive away. Thomas, there are cars, planes, buses, everything and you believe aliens took them?"
"I don't know what to believe Tanner! People are gone! And it's not just one or two in just Chicago. It millions and it is national! And you see all these car wrecks?" Thomas pointed as they drove by one more. "Those don't have people in them! Those have clothing from the people that were driving them! That's not normal Tanner! And what if we find Mom and Dad like that! What if their gone just like all of those people?" Thomas screamed, he was crying at this point.
They sat for the reminder of the ride in silence. Tanner drove up to the church; he and Thomas had only been there twice so it was a miracle they remembered where it was. The church was small and white with three giant crosses on the top of it the middle on taller than the other two. It seemed like the service was still going on. The parking was still pretty full of car so Tanner parked right by the sidewalk of the church.
Tanner took a deep breath and turned to Thomas who, was looking away from him with tears in his eyes.
"Thomas look at me" Tanner told him and he did "I- I don't know what is going on alright, but I know everything will be fine, we have each other right? And I promise to make sure you are safe" Tanner smiled, and put a hand on his brother's shoulder.
Thomas looked at him but turned away, pushing Tanner's hand off "Like you 'take care' of me when you're around your friends or at school?" He hissed out, Tanner had never seen Thomas act this way and it frightened him
"So I haven't been the best brother in the world, sue me. I will now I promise, but we need to fine Mom and Dad and get home before who-knows-what else happens " Tanner said sticking out is fit towards his brother. "Come on man, don't leave me hanging"
Thomas smiled and fit bumped him "Can we go in now?"
"Yeah, come on" Them both got out of the car and walk up to the church, Tanner put his right arm around his brother's shoulder " Oh and if I knew you were going to be this moody I would have asked for a twin sister" He joked hoping Thomas would take it as a joke
"Hey, I am older then you, so if anybody would be the twin sister it would be you"
They both laughed "Only by three minutes!" Tanner protested
"Whatever you say… sis" Thomas said as he walked into the building
"I knew we were related somehow you have some humor in you" Tanner replied and fallowed him
Emily was sitting on the couch watched as her Father walked back and forth in front of her. She was trying to watch the news, and just letting everything process. She still couldn't fathom that this happened to her, Emily the church kid. Emily, the one every parent wanted as a child. She was good, she went to church, read her Bible, gave offering, and gave money to the homeless, so why was she still here? That was the question that was bouncing in her mind.
"Dad, please move I want to watch the news" Emily whispered barely audible
"Does it not matter Emily, we know what happened so you don't have to watch the stupid news" Her Dad said
"Dad… please I just… I just want to watch it please" She told him raping her arms around her legs that she pulled up to her.
"Go watch it somewhere else than. I don't want to listen to it"
"This is the only TV in the house Dad" Emily explained
Her dad cursed and threw a glass that was full of water at the wall. Emily screamed and jumped "Do what you want. I'm going out."
"Where?" Emily asked quietly making sure not to make her Father even madder
"Out, I'll be back" He said slamming the door behind him
Emily sat there not saying a word; she couldn't believe her Dad would act like this. She stood up and walked to the broken glass cup and started to pick it up. Tears started forming in her eyes.
"Why, why am I here… I did everything you wanted me to God! Why am I not with You! " She cried out loud. She slummed to the floor crying and thinking of what she would have to go through while she was living on Earth
Megan looked at the two empty twin beds on either sides of the room. She was sitting right in the middle of them, holding her knees while shaking her head back and forth, there was a word she would call this, and it was crazy. She had and finally gone crazy, that was the only explanation to what was happening, people just don't vanish. Boys don't mysterious go missing without their clothes. She stood up. This was not happening. She had to have been tired, or maybe she was dreaming either way, this was not real, it couldn't be.
Megan got up and took one last look for the boys around the house. She went from room to room looking under beds to going through closets while yelling for them. When she still could not find them, she went outside. That's when panic started to set in again. She looked around and heard screams and sirens wherever. The smell of smoke it her nose when she saw the giant black puff of smoke in the distance.
So it was true, everything. The kids disappeared, but why? Why two little children. They didn't do anything wrong. That is when she thought of their parents. What if that is why they were not back? What if they disappeared also? Then she thought of her parents, what if they disappeared and she was all alone. Megan got into her car and started it and drove back to her house.
"Please be home, please be home" Megan kept repeating over and over.
JACK AND ELIZABETH
When Jack pulled up the white church he couldn't help but feel weird. Like the world we still here, like somehow everything at this church somehow told still. When he finally found a parking place he turned to Elizabeth, she looked like she was angry. Like instead of the scared and anticipated feeling he felt at this time. It was like she just had given up on finding her family.
"Are you going in? Because the sooner you find out what happened to your family the sooner I can tell you what happen to mine… and most liking yours" Lizzy said but making sure the last part couldn't have been heard.
"Yeah, you coming in? maybe the church will have a first-aid or something you did almost die in a burning house."
"Yeah sure, whatever" She mumbled under her breath
They walked up to the church, unlike their neighborhood it seemed quiet, not peacefully, but not crazy like everywhere else. When they walked inside the lights were still on, and there were clothes on the floor.
"Ok, I might have never gone to church, but that I know is not normal" Jack said pointing to the pill of clothes on the floor
"Wow, didn't expected you to realize that" Lizzy said sarcasm dripping from each word
"You are a snarky little girl you know that" Jack shot back walking down the hallway
"I'm thirteen what were you expecting, little Miss Bubbly?"
"No" he replied not really wanting to get into a fight with a little kid, she was being stupid and she was mad deadly combination.
As he walked into the main auditorium where there were pews on both sides of the large room. Leaving a medium size aisle all leading up to a stage with a podium that looked like a cross.
"Nice place, very… church like" Jack stated as he turned around
"Yeah, real homey… your parents do go to this church right?" Lizzy asked
"New Hope Village Church right? And no my parents don't go here, it was their first time coming, my friend goes here though, tried to get me to come."
"And did you?"
Jack shook his head "No, I mean… I might but no I never came… You? Have you ever gone to church?"
"No, parents came here tonight for the first time, I didn't go… I had friends that told me all about Christianity though."
"Yeah same, well… my parents go… on Christmas and Easter… that is about it."
"Expect for tonight?"
"Yeah except for tonight now… where would they be nobody looks to be in here… even the lights are off" Jack said as he turned he say the light switch and flipped it on, that is when he saw all the clothes all over the pews and some by the stage
"What?" Jack said surprisingly "Um, why are there all these clothes?"
"Jack listen I um, I have something-" Lizzy said but was cut off by Jack
"These are Aaron's clothes!" Jack said
"Jack see-" Lizzy tried again but was once again cut off
"And these are my parent's clothes! I saw them wearing them before they left! Why are everybody's clothes left here… does that mean there…" Jack trailed off
"Hey! Can I talk to you for once without getting interrupted?" Lizzy asked. Sounding annoyed
"No, not really! I am trying to find my parents and friends who along with everyone else that decided to go wherever they are in their birthday suit! I'm not really in the mood for taking" Jack said running around room like a chicken with his head cut off
"Can shut up for once… I hear someone coming"
"Oh deery me please he clothed" Jack said running to the back of the room and bending down behind the pew so he was out of site of whoever was coming.
"Tanner I thought I told you to turn the lights off in this room?" Jack heard a guy say
"I did! I swear!" the other guy said back
"Then why are they on?"
"Like I know-"
Jack and Lizzy stood up to see who the two male voices were
"Who are you?" the boy with the glasses said, they looked about Jacks age and not only that they looked like brothers twins even
"I am Elizabeth"
"And I'm Jack? Who are you?"
"I'm Tanner and this is my twin brother Thomas"
"Now, what are you two doing here, you two weren't here earlier?" Thomas asked rudely
"We, could ask you the same question" Lizzy shot back
"We are here to find my parents" Jack quickly said after Lizzy. He shot her a look and she backed off
The two brothers looked down "We are too, nobody's here… we checked" Tanner told them
"What? But there are clothes everywhere? Where did they go than?" Jack asked
"Wow, have you not watched the news tonight?" Thomas asked sarcasm in his voice
Jack started to walk to them. He was starting to get mad. He wanted answers and they weren't giving any to him.
"No, I don't because in the middle of the night I'm normally sleeping"
Tanner had stepped in front of Thomas in a protective position "Let's not get into anything alright? We both want the same thing. To find our parents"
"Did you find your parents clothes too?" Lizzy asked walking up the aisle towards the boys
Both of them turned pale, like they saw a ghost "Yeah, we did… other there" Tanner pointed to a pew that had clothes laying on it
"So, you know?" Lizzy asked the boys and the nodded
"Yeah, they're gone like the millions of others around the world" Thomas said
"Mine too" Lizzy told them they looked at her with sympathy
"Sorry" Thomas said but Lizzy just kept quiet
"What are you guys talking about? Disappearing? That makes no sense" Jack asked
"Dude, I'm sorry… but if you found your parents clothes laying around here… they… they're gone" Tanner told him sadness in his voice. He moved out of the way so be was besides his brother again
"No, that's not true they're here they just-"
"Nobody is here bro, trust us… we checked" Thomas conformed him
"But, but that's not possible" Jack turned to Lizzy "You said you knew where they were… so where are they"
"I- I don't know where they are but… you said your parents went to church, this church and well this is where my parents went this morning so I just thought maybe it was related or something… I wasn't sure though"
"So, they're gone?" Jack looked back at the brothers totally ignoring what Lizzy said
"Yes, just like ours" Thomas whispered than he turned to Lizzy "What you said… about it having to do with church… do you think that's was it?"
"I still don't know… maybe it is just adult's gone but-"
"Guy! Are you hearing yourselves? You guys are debating who the people are that disappeared doesn't that sound just a little morbid?" Jack asked confused on how they could be doing that and not freak out over the fact that there are people 'disappearing'
"I want to figure out who the people are that gone don't you?" Thomas asked calmly
"I do know! My parents! My best friend! Both just… gone. I can't be the only one freaking out over this?"
"You're not; we know are parents are gone alright? We are freaking out just as much as you, but we want to figure out why?" Jack stayed silent he was still astonished on how the others were acting
"It can't be the adults, the news reported was an adult the police and it can't just be the people in the church because there are accounts with people gone all over the country" Thomas stated
"So what? Is it the bad people gone or something?" Tanner asked
"I doubt that, looking at my life" Lizzy said
"Does this even matter?" Jack said making Lizzy jump "People are gone our parents, our families are gone what's the point in finding out why?"
Before anybody could say anything Tanner spoke up "Okay, what about this… we are all just… really tired… why we don't just go and sleep we can… take about this later"
"That is going to be a little hard for us…my house was burning when we left… his house is right next to mine… I'm sure it's spread by now" Lizzy said with no emotion
"I guess, I guess you can come to our house for the night, we have two extra guest rooms you guys can use." Tanner told them
Lizzy and Jack looked at each other, they both didn't have a home to go back to and both didn't want to do anything alone for tonight. They looked at the brothers and nodded in unison
"We'll we are going to have to walk than… our car is out of gas" Tanner explained
"It's ok we can use mine… it's big enough for the four of use just tell me where to go and we'll be fine" Jack offered
Everybody agreed with either a nod or a 'yes'. They made their way out of the auditorium and turned off all the lights. They all filed into Jack's SUV. Jack driver's seat, Tanner in the passenger's with Thomas and Lizzy in the back. As they were heading to the brothers house one question was on all of the teen's mind and that was, what was going to happen next.
And there we go! Done! Sorry about the few of you who wasn't in this chapter you guys will have lots of… 'Screen time' I just can't fit everybody in the same chapter. And you have read the makings of the group! yay! they are becoming a group! oh and don't worry it will only be a few more chapters til they form the BIG group. So I need to make one thing clear, specially in the few chapters to come. These kids are not speaking like they normally would… I mean in the tone , they are not acting the sameand it's hard to get that cross when they are not crying or being over emotional. They are talking with no emotion or if any emotion its sadness. They are just done sorta with their emotions right now. So if you ever think these kids are happy and brushing off their 'deaths' of their families so quickly you are mistaken. For at least right now they are acting like this. I just have been reading this through and I can see that maybe people will start thinking that. But it is not true! Anyway, updates will be quicker because of the wonderful holiday called summer is here! REVIEW PLEASE! Tell me if you like how I am portraying your character! Or just say anything! I love reviews!
