After Esher leaves, you run round the island once, twice, several times, you're not so sure anymore.
You know what you're looking for, and you know you aren't going to find it, but somehow you can't stop the little buds of hope from sprouting in your chest every time you think you've found a new escape route.
After desperately searching until even your bones feel soaked through, you decide to call it a day and head back to the library for the night. You see the warm glow of the light seeping into the darkness as you approach the building. When you enter, you see the golden tablet glittering brightly in the light, stuck in a vice like grip between the clamps holding it.
You reach for it, aching to touch the cool golden metal, to feel it between your fingers and link away. But your hand slips right through, as if the tablet was just a figment of your imagination. You sigh, your guilt and sorrow piling on top if the dull ache you feel in your chest as you lie on the hard but warm floor of the library.
You roll onto your back and stare up at the ceiling. The sky blue wash of colour covered by the fluffy clouds that you've seen so many times before stare back at you. Your tears fall as you wish for an escape, a way out of the old and dead island. Exhaustion washes over you and you let out a grateful sigh as you finally succumb to sleep.
Okay, so I don't really know if I want this to be a oneshot or if I should continue so please let me know it the comments what you think :)
