Author's Note: The idea for this fic came about because I noticed in "Savor The Veal", after Sam, Jonathan, and Hank show up to visit Tony and Angela (and get quilts), Jonathan refers to Tony as "Dad". I was curious as to when that started.
The first time it happened, no one – not even Jonathan himself – was expecting it. Tony grabbed something that the teenager asked for and handed it to him, impulsively hugging him afterwards.
"Thanks, Dad." Jonathan froze, as did Tony, and Angela looked up from the piece of paper she had been reading.
"Jonathan?" Tony wanted to jump up and down and scream, but he refrained because he wasn't sure if it had been a slip or on purpose.
It actually had been a slip on Jonathan's part, but he meant it – He had considered Tony, not Michael, his father for years. And he knew Tony considered him his son, but he was still terrified of his reaction. "Yeah?"
Angela was still smiling, but she rolled her eyes at the two. "Sweetheart, do you really want to call Tony "Dad"? We won't mind if you do."
"Yeah, of course I do. He's my dad – Michael's just the sperm donor who I never see. Tony … Dad has been there for nearly every important moment in my life. He's going to be my stepdad. I love him."
Tony sniffled and tried in vain to hold back his sobs. "I love you too, Kiddo. I am so happy you decided to start calling me "Dad". It means the world to me." He would always remember this moment.
Jonathan dropped the item he had asked for and hugged his father – Angela joined in a few minutes later. When Mona, Sam, and Hank entered the living room a few minutes later they were all confused by their family's behavior. When they learned the real reason for the random Bower-Micelli hug, they hugged them too.
Sam had considered Angela her mother for years, but she couldn't actually call her "Mom". She was happy that Jonathan was able to do it with their father, but bitter she couldn't say it to their own mother. Hopefully, she'd be able to say the words someday.
The Bower-Micelli kids stuck together when Tony and Angela temporarily broke up and they rejoiced when their parents reunited. It had been a miserable few months for everyone, and they were glad that everything would return to normal.
Six months later, Jonathan walked his mother down the aisle as she became Angela Micelli. A few weeks after that, they started the adoption proceedings, and luckily, Michael signed away his parental rights. (Although Jonathan hadn't considered Michael his father in a long time, it still hurt how fast and easily his biological father agreed to let the adoption go through. He never talked to him again after that.)
When the adoption was finalized, Jonathan Bower legally became Jonathan Micelli, and the entire family celebrated at one of their favorite restaurants. Angela, Mona, and Sam would later deny that they cried as Jonathan and Tony stared at them in horror.
And to think, everything that had led to this moment of happiness had begun because Angela had been looking for a housekeeper and Tony had shown up.
