A/N: I was working on a completely different story that featured a psychopath, then the Master decided to pop in for a visit, which probably explains why I have been watching End of Time a lot. As I was watching it, I came up with this scene and am now half- way sane again, thankfully. :p Enjoy. :D

Disclaimer: I own nothing.

Four Beats

My voice echoed across the wasteland as I crouched, gathering my energy to spring after the two homeless men. Anticipation made my hearts pump fasterso that their twin beats kept rythym with the drums in my head. One, two, three, four. One, two, three, four. It didn't matter which way or how far they ran, I would catch up to them.

I smelled their fear as I leapt high and arced toward them. I even tasted it in their blood and meat as I devoured them. Their fear just added to the flavour. They tasted so good, I tried to consume one of the coats they wore. I froze abruptly as I felt him in my mind. I raised my head and smelled the air. He's close. The Doctor has found me.

I lead him on a chase as if we were kids, once more, back home on Gallifrey running through my father's feilds. I made sure he followed me deeper into the wasteland. Images of home disappeared as the drums beat harder and louder. One, two, three, four. One, two three, four.

I, finally, stopped on a pile of steel beams and saw the Doctor stop five yards away. I distantly noticed that he seemed different then the last time I saw him. He seemed older. I shoved this to the back of my mind and laughed at the Doctor's deparate expression.

"Please, let me help!"

I stopped laughing and glared at him. I don't want your help! I felt the disturbing sensation of my skin flash between skeleton and flesh.

"You're burning up your own life force!"

I tilted my head and grinned as I felt that sensation again. Good, whatever had changed him has not affected his brain, too. I laughed as I leapt off the other side of the beams and ran, taunting the Doctor and daring him to come after me.

I heard him run up to the beams, but frowned when he didn't give full chase. I knew he was looking for me and there were other people around. I hid and waited until I couldn't smell him nearby, then went in search for more food.

Without the Doctor distracting me, the drums came flooding back into the foreground of my mind. One, two, three, four. One, two, three, four. One two, three four.

The never ending drums of four beats.

A/N: I really have no idea what this is. All I know, for sure, is that this was an attempt to write the Master out of my brain so I could focus on that other fic, which I have been promising for nearly a year, now and it seemed to have worked. Kind of. :p I hope you enjoyed. :D
