Spike was giving his life to save the world. Everything was collapsing. He was alone with Buffy. He told her to go but she wouldn't go just yet. She couldn't.

"I love you," she said with tears in her eyes.

"No, you don't. But thanks for saying it," he replied.

Buffy looked confused. Why would he say that?

Maybe he saw me with Angel earlier, she thought. I hope not.

She came as close as she could and put her hands on his just as flames started to appear.

"Yes, I do love you. I should have told you before," she said.

He nodded but didn't say a word.

Obviously hearing that now was better than never.

"You make me feel sexy. You make me feel safe. You make me feel loved," she said.

He smiled. He was happy to hear those words.

"I've loved you for so long," he said.

"Everytime I got to hold you in my arms was wonderful. Everytime I got to kiss your lips felt like paradise," he explained.

It was surprising to hear Spike talk that way. He would never talk about his feelings. It really felt like the end.

It made Buffy very sad.

"You've always made me feel special," she said.

"But you are special. You are one of a kind," he said.

Buffy was trying to keep it together but it was getting very hard. She was feeling him leave her already.

"Wherever you go, promise me to keep an eye on me," she asked.

"You can count on that. I'll protect you, love," he said.

She couldn't hold back the tears. The flames were getting higher, hotter. She was in pain for him.

"I'm so sorry, Spike. I wish I'd told you all that before. Whatever you think, I do care about you and I do love you," she said.

"I'd say I'll love you until my dying day…" he started to say.

"Please don't say that," she asked. "I'll always love you."

"I give you my heart," he said.

He reached for something in his pocket. He gave her a necklace with a heart.

"Oh my God, Spike, it's beautiful, thank you!" she said.

"I'm glad you like it."

"I'll never take it off," she said as she quickly put it around her neck.

"You mean the world to me. Keep that in mind," he told her.

Buffy was really touched and so very sad.

It was hard to see him like this. He was doing something extraordinary.

He was saving the world. But in order to do that he had to die. It wasn't fair.

"I am so sorry it has to end like this. You deserved a lot better," she added.

"Are you kidding? I'm dying a hero," he said with his usual charming smile.

"You are a hero, that's for sure. You are my hero," she said as she looked deep into his eyes.

She could see he was a little bit anxious. Of course he would never allow himself to be scared or anything. His pride.

"I do love you, Spike, and I'll never forget you."

"I love you more than you'll ever know," he said.

He looked deep into her teary eyes and kissed her. Then he vanished. Buffy was left alone with nothing but her tears.

The roof above her head started to collapse and she ran fast.

"I'll always love you, Spike," she said again as she ran.
