Five nights spent in quarantine

The first night Chloe and Matt spent in quarantine they sat on opposite sides of the room. Matt was grateful, of course, for her donation of alien-tainted blood without which he would never have survived the growing infestation of the organism he had contracted. Naturally, he told her that she didn't have to do it, and Chloe said, of course she had to do it, and after they had reached that impasse there really wasn't that much more to say.

The second night they were both going stir crazy. Matt was pacing back and forth in their cell while Chloe picked at the silvery growth on her skin, watching with morbid fascination as it grew back again within hours. Matt told her what she was doing was gross, and she told him his constant wandering drove her up the wall, but could he please keep it up anyway so he would wear a hole into the floor eventually and they could get the hell out?

The third night Chloe had a meltdown. She sobbed for hours, beating herself up over the fact that by saving her man's life she had also doomed him to a slow transformation into an alien creature like herself. Matt wasn't going to say it, but she was right to a certain extent. When he tried to joke about it that hey, it bought him a couple of extra days at least, she began to wail all over again.

The fourth night Matt discovered that sex was a very good way to shut Chloe up, and Chloe realized it kept Matt from pacing, as she clamped her thighs around his hips and they made like bunnies for hours on end.

The fifth night Matt realized that he still didn't show any signs of alien skin growth, and that he felt like a million bucks, and so he asked for TJ to stop by and take a blood sample. While they waited for the results Chloe covered the walls with incomprehensible calculations and Matt played tic-tac-toes. They had a quickie in between a complicated series of algorithms and the seventeenth time in a row of losing at tic-tac-toe and then they waited some more.

But finally Matt was released and they both breathed a sigh of relief. Absence really does make the heart grow fonder, while shared quarantine will apparently lead to quite the opposite result.
