Hiei had been looking for Yukina for fifteen years now all over Ningenkai. He had been to many countries, and he encountered a child who was similar to him. Unwanted. But the child had great yet untrained power. Feeling kinship, he took the child along for the ride. YYH-HP male/male

Hiei, a hybrid between a Kakima(fire demon) through his father and koorime(ice maiden) through his mother was what the koorime called Imiko or Forbidden Child, as their race despised and feared men and their violent ways, thus evolved in a way to reproduce without needing a man. They do so by Parthenogenesis. But because Hiei's mother coupled with a man she fell in love with, her pregnancy resulted in twins-a pure koorime child, and a boy who only inherited the genes of his father in terms of his looks and power, but he inherited the ability to make gems out of his tears, and immunity from the cold from his mother...
Whom he never even knew. All he had from her was the teargem pendant he lost in fifty years of his life, and a memory of her begging those decrepit elders to let her leave Hyouga with her children in exile as long as she gets to keep him, and her wail of grief when Rui threw him off the island. Twenty years later, he sought Shigure, a master osteopath who could implant the Jagan in him, to give him the abilities of a Jaganshi as he had three things to search for he couldn't do on his own.
Find Hyouga for his revenge and find the teargem pendant he lost. But upon finding Hyouga, he gained a third thing to search for...his twin sister who left Hyouga to find him. Somewhat relieved that someone out there still cared, he sought her out, but could never tell Yukina who he is to her...his price he promised Shigure. He couldn't tell her anyway as he felt that his sister who only knew peace...might not accept a brother who thrived in blood and thievery. That had been his insecurity.
He searched for her for ten years all over ningenkai. He came to a country called England and was attracted to that country because of the power he felt there. He also discovered a race of magical humans called Majou and Madoushi. They however, could only use magic if they had their wands. Without it or without a medium, they couldn't use their powers at all. And judging by the looks of their society, they didn't even bother to evolve, as they were set in the old ways.
They could have gotten much better. Much stronger. He could see...no, TASTE their potential but they didn't bother. He decided that this race wasn't worth his time but maybe, their artifacts were...and their money was gold! It was something he could use. And the treasures within Gringotts Bank was so great he took time and care to check the high-security vaults, open them and take the treasures within, and disappearing before the Goblins could get there and catch him(not that they can compete with him). So he freeloaded in this magical community for a while, before going on his merry way again with his magical booty.
But upon arrival in Privet Drive...he sensed a great power in one of the houses. "Hm?" he went to inspect the house, as a family of humans left in a car, something about 'Amusement Park'. Well, he had been there. Now that they left, there was no one in his way to check the house. But it had a ward on it but the family that left were pure humans. He circumvented the ward with great care as it had security alarms that he recognized, having been freeloading in the Magical Community for a while.
Upon entering the house, he followed the power source. It led him to a cupboard under the stairs. Upon tearing the metal padlocks apart, he opened the door that let out quite a stink, but inside it is a very neglected, malnourished child with no life in his eyes. Eyes with no hope. Compared to that healthy and overweight child with those two adults, this one was the exact opposite.
He took the child with him. He and this child...were similar after all. He named the toddler Kurou(孔牢) a meaningful name, for he pierced through a ward, to get to the child's prison and free him. He also did some investigating in the house as well by using the Jagan's powers on the house.
Needless to say, this child is better off with him. And his real name? Harry Potter. It sounds lame no matter what the language...and in his own language...it could mean 'needle', 'acupuncturist' or god-forbid...'golden cuttlefish'. And his surname? Sounds like food! These people are no good with names at all!
Years later...when Kurou was ten years old and traveling with him to China, there they met a man who could formally train Kurou in the ways of the sword(Hiei had to mind-control him due to the language barrier), as Hiei spent most of the years training Kurou in literacy, mannerisms(or mannerisms of a fighter), tactics, strategy, combat and honing his powers that as a wizard, really didn't have alignment. He could do pretty much anything. But Hiei's style of fighting only suited him. It would not suit his ward.
He grew to care for Kurou over the years, as they have had similar fates. They were both unwanted children, unwanted by their kin. Hiei was intended to have a quick death, but luckily he fell in water and was found and raised by thieves. Kurou was neglected, only brought out to be given minimum care, the barest minimum enough to live. A slow torture. All because he was different. Kurou had the worser deal. When Kurou was old enough to know, he told him how he found him, as Kurou had little memories of his childhood. All he knew was darkness and the pain of starvation and thirst.
Kurou didn't take too well what his own family had done. He was in shock for a week, and Hiei didn't know how to comfort a distraught child as he never knew it himself. He began despising humans and despised his family, and renounced them. What did he do to deserve such cruelty from his own blood? Being born different wasn't something he wished, it just happens. He begged his adoptive father Hiei to make him a youkai but that wasn't something Hiei could do.
But there is one way.
The Ankoku Bujutsukai that occurs every 50 years. Next year, it would be held and the prize for the winning team, is one wish per member. And it would be granted no matter how crazy the wish was. Kurou had resolved to bury himself in training to better his sword skills and power to get that one wish. He despised humanity for condemning him for being different and would rather not have anything to do with them.
But surprisingly, humans are useful. He learned sorcery-which is often the subject of fiction and fantasy stories for humans, but hey, he could DO them! In Japan, he also learned Japanese Sorcery and other things, making him extremely versatile, leading him to discover that there is a piece of soul in his scar that didn't belong there but they had no way of removing it. But in strength, he is just as strong as his adoptive father(who slowly aged, being a youkai) thus to any who see them, they'll mistake them for friends as they both appear...adolescent boys.
It was often their own running joke.
In Tokyo...resume for the search of Yukina, Hiei's sister resumed. But they caught wind of a youkai named Yatsude who was said to have eaten a Koorime and hiding somewhere in Ningenkai. Furious, Hiei sought Yatsude for information about Yukina and recklessly attacked him in anger, causing Hiei to be injured and Kurou had to get him away.
They were taken in by Kurama, a youkai Hiei had heard of. Well, mostly his reputation. Hiei had told him that Kurama is a well-known thief. Known for his beauty, cruelty, intelligence, cunning and power. That was before his death fourteen years ago. Then Hiei had heard rumors going around that he was reborn in Ningenkai but he didn't think it was actually true.
Kurou had thanked Kurama by telling him that his mother would soon be terminally ill and on the early stage without her noticing but if she gets to a hospital in time to get diagnosed, the doctors can still do something. In turn upon seeing that it was for real, Kurama aided them against Yatsude.
The youkai indeed ate a koorime, but not the one they were looking for.
A year later...the two discovered of a way to get rid of the soul piece leeching on Kurou's life force. But it was in a heavily guarded vault in Reikai...thus they needed EXPERT help to get it.
'You want my help to break into Reikai Vaults to get the Orb of Baast?' Kurama asked the two...unlikely pair as he had known them a year ago.
'Yeah.' said Kurou. 'I need it to get rid of a soul fragment in my scar leeching off my life force.' said Kurou. 'I want it out ever since I discovered it's existence last year.'
'Not even I know when he got it, he never left my sight ever since I took him in. So I can only assume that he had it before or after he was born or the first three years of his life. Somewhere in that timeline. In return, you can have this.' he said as he took out a red...rock? It's a magic item I stole in the West. I tested and it worked. It can create gold and a very powerful healing Elixir that can even restore youki and reiki levels, besides healing even extreme injuries.' Kurama's jaws dropped at this. Such an item existed?
'The country Kurou originated from has a hidden community of Majou and Madoushi.' Hiei continued. 'When I thieved in their vaults that guarded their gold and treasures, I found it there. Somebody must have created it but for the life of me, I can't understand their language.' he said wryly.
'Very well. I accept the pay.' Kurama agreed. He helped them break into Reikai Vaults to steal the Orb of Baast, and helped with the extraction of the 'freeloader' off of Kurou. It caused him considerable pain and for black blood to come out of the scar, as well as an unearthly scream from their target. Then Kurou gasped.
'O-Otou-sama...' Kurou choked as he shakily glanced at Hiei. 'My eyesight...it suddenly improved! I can see as clear as water now!' Hiei and Kurama got taken aback by this. 'Not only that...I felt something snap in several places in my power. They all broke...who did this? Who bound my powers?' he questioned furiously.
'Maybe the same person who put that freeloader in you.' Hiei muttered. 'It all happened at the same time. Kurama do you know anything about an ability that can split souls and attach them to unknowing hosts for their power?'
'Even I don't know that either. In my five thousand millennia of life, I have never ventured into Ningenkai as at the time, Ningenkai has useless treasures I have no interest of as at the time, Humans are very primitive creatures. Think caveman or Homo Erectus.' said Kurama wryly. 'But considering Reikai Laws...it is extremely illegal. It's already a one-way ticket to the Purgatory.'
