The Day The World Changed
"Oh my god! SAM!" 10 year old Nicole called.
"What? Whats the matter?" 22 year old Sam rushed into the living room where her two little sisters where watching TV.
"A plane just crashed into the North Tower" A female voice on the TV stated as Carrie approached Sam.
"Where is that Sammie?" 4 year old Carrie asked fearfully hugging her sisters legs.
Sam scooped up Carrie "New York sweetie."
"Is it close?"
"No baby. Its far, far away." Sam replied her eyes still glued to the TV.
"What about Patrick?" Nikki exclaimed "Mom took him to the airport this morn-"
"OH MY GOD ANOTHER PLANE HAS CRASHED INTO THE SOUTH TOWER!" The female newscaster cried.
"What if Pat was on one of the planes!"
"He wasn't Nik!" Sam replied.
"How do you know?"
"Because he was going to Quebec."
"What's all the ruckus in here?" Diane Dawson asked coming into the living room "Oh my!"
"Pat's there I know it!" Nikki sobbed running to hug her mom.
"No he's not." Diane glanced at the clock "His plane will have landed by now. I'll go call him."
"Ok." Nikki hiccoughed.
"In the mean time I want you to take Carrie up to the play room."
"Because I said so." Diane said as Sam set Carrie on the carpeted floor.
Nikki nodded before taking Carrie's hand and leading her out of the room and up the stairs.
"Where's dad?" Sam asked taking her eyes off the TV for the first time.
"Doing chores." Diane replied "He's probably already heard it on the radio."
Sam nodded before sitting on the ottoman by the TV. She barely registered the phone ringing in the background until Diane tapped her daughter on the shoulder.
"Its for you honey." Diane handed her the phone before moving to sit in the arm chair.
"OH MY GOD! DID YOU SEE THE NEWS!" Sam's best friend, Hope cried.
"Oh my god Hope! Are you okay?"
"Ya. I was in Time Square when it happened. I just can't believe it! All those poor people!"
"I'm glad your okay. I can't believe it either."
"I'm gonna call my mom and let her know I'm okay. I'll talk to you later okay?"
"Okay. Bye Hope."
"Is she alright?" Diane asked.
Sam nodded mutely.
"Sam can you go check on your sisters?" Diane asked.
"Sure mom." Sam smiled standing up.
Diane smiled encouragingly at her daughter as she left the room. Sam walked up the stairs, drumming her fingers on the railing as she walked. She stopped outside the play room and leaned against the door jam. Sam sighed watching her sister's play, she knew in her heart that the world would never be the same.
I hope you all liked it :)
