Disclaimer- I don't own Young Justice or Sheryl Crow's song "Try Not to Remember".

I got this one-shot idea from a song I listened to. I recommend the song!

Note 1-The song's lyrics will be in bold and italics. Please review after reading!

One-Shot

Dick had just gotten out of his shower and was dressed when he turned on his radio that Bruce had gotten him when he first came here. Expecting a happy song, Dick settled in his desk chair and started on his homework that was due sometime next semester.

But it wasn't a happy song that came on.

. . . Try to erase the smell of freedom and every face that happened to meet mine.

What still remains something unrelenting.

I'll say the names of those I left behind.

Shrugging to himself, Dick figured it was some song about a girl running away from home and started on his History homework.

In the still of the night, do you laugh?

Do you cry?

Do you try not to remember?

Dick's back stiffened and his eyes stung. Those three lyrics had hit a nerve . . . A very sensitive nerve. But he ignored it, dismissing his feelings. It was just a song, nothing more . . .

If it's a question of fate, do you love?

Do you hate?

Do you try not to remember?

Dick's pencil tip snapped, the sound lost in the melancholic melody. Yes . . . I do try not to remember. Thanks for reminding me.

I see your eyes in my own reflection.

These broken skies begin to mend.

That line reminded him of his mother's blue eyes, the ones he had inherited from her. The ones that had sparkled with happiness . . . The ones that had glazed over with sadness . . . The ones that had clouded with fear as she fell . . .

We are the same, fighting for something.

What's left to gain?

There's no means to an end.

In the still of the night, do you laugh?

Do you cry?

Dick barked a laugh. Of course I still cry! It's only been four and a half years since they fell onto the unforgiving earth and died with their mouths open with silent screams! It's only been four and a half years since I ran to their sides and shook them only to find their bodies empty like lifeless dolls! . . . And I do laugh . . . Even if sometimes all I want to do is go crawl into a corner and cry myself to sleep.

Do you try not to remember?

If it's a question of fate, do you love?

Do you hate?

Do you try not to remember . . .

Dick sighed as the song faded, a upbeat song taking its place.

But his feelings didn't go away, his feelings of lost and despair.

But if his parents hadn't died, he wouldn't be the person he was today. The person who wanted to help people because of what had happened to him. The person who his parents could be proud of.

And besides, if I hadn't become Robin, Bruce would have died a long time ago.

A/N- Yeah, I know it's a bad ending but I had this one-shot nagging me for a couple of days. Please review! :)
