April 13 11:02 p.m.

I am about to sneak out through the cellar. I'll write when I'm out.

April 13 11:14 p.m.

I am out on the street. I got out easily. Now I am about to go to an small part of town where I didn't think anyone lived. It's like this because years ago, a bad sickness broke out there and Warvold, the mayor of Lunenburg, hadn't let anyone in or out except the doctor so that it wouldn't spread. Sadly, almost everyone had died, so no one ever went there anymore, or so everyone thinks. There are only three houses so finding him should be easy. I will write when I do.

April 13 11:16 p.m.

I found a house with a small light coming from the window. I am going to investigate.

April 13 11:17 p.m.

I am looking through the window. The man is in there. He is sitting at a table. He is staring at the candle and there is an open book on his lap. Now that I look closely at him, he doesn't look as much as a man as he does a boy. He is maybe nineteen or twenty. His hair is brown and shaggy but I can't see his eyes. Maybe if I move up a little, Oh no, he just saw me. I have to go.

April 13 11:28 p.m.

The man asked me to come in and sit down so I did. He introduced himself as Luther. At first I was unsure if he would try to hurt me, but it doesn't seem that way. He gave me a moment to write. I will record our conversation with him when it is through.

April 13 11:43 p.m.

I cannot believe this! Luther is related to me! He is my mother's second cousin, making him my third cousin. I didn't think that I still had any relatives. Here is a rough account of our conversation:

"So, Kale, I don't think you remember me," said Luther.

"No, I don't believe I've ever seen you," I replied.

"Well, you were only a baby at the time."

"What are you talking about? And how do you know my name?"

"Alright, I don't know how to put this any other way," he said. There was a little twinkle in his eye. "I am your third cousin."

I almost jumped up. "Wha-wha?" was all I could get out.

"I know that it must be a shock, but it is true. I am your only living relative on your mother's side."

"Well then, when my mother died, why didn't you become my guardian?"

"I had no idea that she died. I moved to Ainsworth. But then when I returned a few months ago, I found out that she was gone. The reason why it took so long to find you was because you weren't born in Lunenburg."

"Yes, you were born in Turlock."

"Why did you come back to Lunenburg, or Turlock?"

"I would prefer not to talk about that."

"Alright. Why did my mother put me in an orphanage here in Lunenburg?"

"That, I can't tell you now."

I was starting to get angry at these secrets. "Why not? I deserve to know!"

"If you know now it will only put you into more danger, Adele!"

Luther's calling me Adele took me by surprise. "My name isn't Adele."

"Oh, I mean Kale. Sorry."

And then there was an awkward silence. Then I pulled out this journal and wrote the conversation. I need to be getting back to the orphanage, and Luther said that he would talk to the headmaster on the orphanage tomorrow. I have a lot to think about.

A/N: ok, I know Adele is the name of the musician but I think it's so pretty! But Kale is in no way like Adele the real person. ;)
