A drabble - in which Caroline gets really jealous and insecure after Rebekah tells her Klaus had been crazy in love with the first doppelgänger, Tatia.
Caroline stared at Rebekah as they sat in the living room of the big mansion, wondering what was taking Klaus so long. Hadn't he said to meet here at seven so they could go out to dinner? It was almost seven-thirty now and Caroline was starting to get anxious.
Rebekah smirked as she watched Caroline look uncomfortable, wishing Nik would hurry up so she didn't have to play hostess. "You're not…dark like she was."
Caroline was staring into space, not even looking at Rebekah, but the sound of her voice made her snap out of her daydreaming. "I'm not…what? Who are you talking about?"
"Tatia, of course. Nik's first love. He loved her so much, cherished her. Even went against his own brother to try and win her favor."
Caroline had heard a little mention of the original doppelgänger, not really caring too much about any more Elena look alikes. It was Katherine's fault that she was a vampire in the first place, and she didn't need anymore history about the Petrova line. "Oh. That's nice for him."
Rebekah smirked, shaking her head. "Yes, it was very nice. Except of course when I had to hear them making love. Oh, the things that would come out of her mouth when Nik was - "
"That's enough, I get it," Caroline interrupted, not wanting Rebekah to see that she was getting to her, but failing. Yes, Caroline had been with other guys before, and she expected that Klaus had had his fair share of women. He'd been alive for over a thousand years, after all.
"Oh, you're not jealous are you? I mean, I'm sure he'll get used to the blonde hair and bubbly cheeks that you have."
Caroline glared at her. She was going to lunge at the other girl and rip her throat out. Caroline knew that she was a beautiful girl, and even Klaus had said so himself. Who cared about some dead Elena clone?
"That's enough, Rebekah," Klaus said as he finally came downstairs and walked into the living room.
Caroline turned around in her chair and looked at him, smiling. He looked very handsome and he was smiling at her, making her stomach do a little flip-flop. Tatia who? she couldn't help but think as his eyes met hers.
Rebekah rolled her eyes and huffed, getting up from the couch. "I was only teasing her, Nik. You both need to lighten up." She walked past her brother and bumped his shoulder. "I'm hungry. You two enjoy your little date." She walked out of the room and left them alone, Caroline resisting the urge to stick her tongue out at her.
Klaus walked over to Caroline and pulled her up from her chair, his hands resting loosely on her hips. "Tatia was a very long time ago."
Caroline shrugged, trying to make it seem like she didn't care. "I don't care. I mean, it's not like I don't know you've been with other people." She tried not to meet his eyes so that he could sense her insecurity, but it was hard to not look at him. His eyes were so intense and she secretly liked the way he always stared at her.
"I find it rather adorable that you got a little jealous," he said, smiling. He leaned in and pecked her lips softly. "And for the record, I like your blonde hair and bubbly cheeks."
Caroline laughed softly and hugged him, her head resting on his shoulder. "Your sister is such a…bitch."
"Yes, well, I think she's actually the one jealous of you."
Caroline lifted her head and looked at him. "Can we just go now? I want to enjoy whatever is rest of the night."
Klaus nodded and took her hand in his, still smiling over her little moment of jealousy. It was nice to feel wanted after a long time of loneliness.
