Every Day, Forever

"Do you think you can stand?" Rory asked his wife, as he helped her into a sitting position.

"I think so," she said, still a bit groggy from the sedative. She leaned slightly into her husband's side as he steered her to their bedroom and over to the bottom mattress of their bunk bed- the Doctor never listened to their request to have it replaced.

"Don't be mad at him," Amy said to Rory, brushing her hand tenderly over his cheek. "He did it to protect me, to let us have our future together."

"I know," said Rory, sitting beside her on the bed. "I know. It's just... I didn't save you."

"What do you mean?" she said. "I'm right here."

He stared straight ahead, refusing to look at her. "There's a reality that exists somewhere out there where I came too late. I came back from the dead, from nonexistence, just for you. We've both sacrificed so much, but, in the end, it might not mean anything. We can still lose each other."

"Oi," said Amy, grabbing his chin, forcing him to face her. "Don't you dare think that for one moment. Every second we spend together is precious, and, even if neither of us lives to see tomorrow, our love is the most important thing in the universe."

Rory, overcome by his wife's words, bent his head down to kiss her. All too quickly he pulled away, and said, "I love you more than anything."

Amy raised her brow and knelt back onto the bed. "Prove it, Mr. Williams."

"I intend to, Mrs. Williams," he said, shifting toward her. "Every day." Then he kissed her again. "Forever."
