Ch.5: The Journey Begins
I followed Sandstorm out of the camp with Hazeltail following me. The clan watched us go, and I could feel Cinderheart's gaze boring into me as I left. I felt so sad that I was leaving her, but I was also excited. I was going on a mission that might help us beat the Dark Forest, and keep Cinderheart safe.
Sandstorm led us towards the mountains, and I saw Toadstep's eyes widen in excitement. "Are we going to travel through the mountains?!" He asked excited.
"Yes," Sandstorm replied, "It is the quickest way to get to the old forest."
"We're going to the old forest?" I asked surprised.
Sandstorm nodded sadly, "You will all be able to see our once beautiful home." Leafpool padded up to comfort her mother, and I remembered that only she, Sandstorm, and Thornclaw had ever lived in the old forest. The rest of us had always lived at the lake.
"I can't wait to see the forest again!" Thornclaw meowed happily.
"It won't look like it used to, Thornclaw." Sandstorm warned him.
Thornclaw twitched his left ear, "I know, but at least we will get to see it again."
"Yes, that is true." Sandstorm agreed, and everyone fell silent as we crossed into Windclan's territory.
Lionblaze and the rest of the patrol had left at dawn, and the camp seemed empty as though those few warriors gave life to it. I stared over at where Briarlight slept peacefully, and tried to will myself back to sleep, but I couldn't. I groaned as I got to my feet, and headed into the clearing. The sky was still tinged pink, and it looked like the sky was stained with blood.
I stiffened as I heard a voice whisper, "A queen's desperate cry will bring life back to the clans, but at the worst possible price."
I stared around in fear, Starclan had spoken finally. We must have hope to beat the dark forest, but what was the worst possible price?
A/N: Sorry I lied last chapter, there is going to be no Jayfeather and Willowshine drama because I can't figure out how to fit it in the story. I hope you enjoyed this chapter.
