I just heard this line and this scene sprung to mind :)

"Even though the battle was won, I feel like we lost it. I spent so much energy on it honestly I'm exhausted, and I'm so caught in it I almost feel I'm the one who caused it."

Harry slowly made his way through the rubble. The only home he'd ever known, destroyed. Last night the joy of finally winning had overridden the pain and guilt, but that only meant it hit him harder with a force that almost knocked him off of his feet. He couldn't bring himself to enter the Great Hall where all of the other survivors had congregated; he didn't deserve to be there. He didn't deserve to share in the grief, not when he was the reason for it.

Deep down he knew that his thinking was irrational, but with no one to tell him any better, no one to comfort him he settled for casting a few half-hearted spells around the room, attempting to repair his broken home. Not that it really made much of a difference.

He heard a voice behind him, a spell being cast. He watched as the smashed window he had tried to repair suddenly became whole again.

"It will take time, but we'll get there." He supposed Hermione wasn't talking solely about the repairing of the castle.

"Why aren't you with the others?" He asked, not turning around.

"Why aren't you?" She replied softly, walking up next to him.

He finally glanced at her, she wasn't looking at him.

"I don't feel right there. It's too much." He admitted.

She grimaced slightly. "Yeah. I know how you feel. But they need us Harry. They need you." She finally turned her head towards him, her eyes exhausted despite the long sleep last night. No. This was a different type of exhaustion, one he was sure he would find in his own eyes when he deigned to look in a mirror.

"How can they?"

Hermione looked surprised for a moment, before a flicker of understanding passed over her face.

"They don't blame you. No one does. It wouldn't have mattered if you'd turned yourself in earlier. It doesn't matter okay? And don't you dare keep wallowing here just because of some misplaced guilt. Not when they need you." The tone was comfortingly familiar, it was just what he had needed, so he turned to her fully and pulled her into a hug, tears filling his green eyes.

"I love you Hermione, I wouldn't be here without you. I know I don't tell you enough. You and Ron."

She pulled back sniffing, she wiped her eyes and smiled at him.

"We love you to you git, and you had better not pull another stunt like that again or I wil kill you and make sure you stay that way." She joked, although when she opened her mouth again her expression and tone were far more serious, "I mean it Harry, you scared us half to death. I thought we'd lost you."

"I'm sorry. It was the only thing I could do." He sighed.

"That's better." She smiled, "No guilt."

He laughed for the first time since he'd defeated Voldemort. After a few seconds Hermione joined him.

"I reckon it's time to join them then."

Hermione nodded. "I mean it you know, we will get there."

"Yeah. We might just."
