In the end, District Nine was shut down. That didn't come as a huge surprise. All the elders were sent home, where they went about creating new lives for themselves.
Connor made it a mission of his to stop General ButtFuckingNaked before he inflicted any more harm. It took a while, but the campaign he launched upon returning to the States resulted in troops being sent to Uganda. The General hadn't been stopped yet, but it was only a matter of time. He considered that his ultimate gift to Kevin. The first thing he had done when he came home was come out to his parents. As expected, he was disowned by his father, though his mother claimed she supported him. But it didn't matter anymore to him – he was who he was, and he had accepted that.
As for Arnold, he didn't return alone. Nabulungi, with the blessing of all the villagers, was engaged to marry him in Salt Lake City. If anything, they had bonded over their mutual loss. And last time Connor had talked to Arnold, Arnold had actually said her name right. It was a special moment.
Though Kevin Price was not physically present, he was still watching and smiling from Heaven, because he could. He loved dropping in and paying his friends visits, even if they didn't know he was there. He had recently figured out how to do some things – flicker lights, play with objects. He knew how to have his presence felt. He'd certainly be at Arnold's wedding. That he was looking forward to. In fact, he was looking forward to everything that was to come, because he knew it would truly be something incredible.
Overall, things were looking up. Where there is trauma, there is also comfort. Where there is hurt, there is love. And where there is pain, there is acceptance.
All was well.
