"You've destroyed my Insect Army," Weevil exclaimed. He stared at his hand with fear and drew his card quickly.
"I've told you once, but in case you didn't hear me before… You are a weakling Weevil," Atem growled. Yugi couldn't believe the deviousness he could feel from his partner. It was awful and dark, yet Yugi wanted more.
Mai had followed the others through to forest. She raised her eyebrow and smiled a little flirty smile up at Yugi. "So he's a sweet heart, a tough duellist and a jerk all wrapped up in one," Mai asked herself, "What a kid!"
Weevil looked up from his cards and stared into Atem's crimson glare. "Yugi you big haired freak, you're going to regret that! Now you've really pissed me off!"
Weevil placed one card face down and called his turn off.
'We won't fall for that trick,' Yugi smirked from inside Atem's heart.
'No, we won't,' Atem replied.
Atem placed Monster Recovery onto the field. It returned his monsters to the cards and Atem picked them up with care. He gave the Dark Magician one last trustworthy look before placing all his cards, other than the ones in his graveyard, and then shuffled his deck.
Atem redrew his cards. 'Perfect,' he thought as he placed Kuriboh onto the field. "I attack with Kuriboh and your trap card is wasted," Atem exclaimed. He looked back down to Kuriboh as his image disappeared. Atem carefully picked up Kuriboh's card and placed him the graveyard. "Thank you," he muttered before returning to the duel. Atem's life points went to 1050, but it didn't faze Atem at all.
"Now I play Louise, the Beaver Warrior and end my turn," Atem announced.
Weevil began to snicker, "You fool! You've done exactly what I wanted!" Weevil played a card called 'Cocoon of Evolution.' He equipped the cocoon onto the Larvae Moth and began to laugh hysterically.
"What's so funny," Atem and Yugi both questioned with killer glares.
"For the next five turns, Larvae Moth with gradually evolve into the ultimately, perfect Great Moth! If that happens, the Great Moth will be invulnerable!"
Atem glared and his perfect game face had grown fear. Yugi could feel it and was completely surprised. His partner feeling fear, that wasn't something Yugi felt every day. No, if Weevil could make Atem scared, then this was going to be a tough battle.
"It's my turn," Atem snarled. Yugi's heart skipped a beat; he had never seen his partner so angry. It was scaring Yugi more and also scarring him for life.
"Make any move you want! None of your cards can scratch my cocoon. Especially after the power field bonus makes it even stronger," as Weevil said these words, the cocoon grew. Its power changed from 2000 to 2600.
Atem brought out Gaia the Fierce Night and played him in attack mode. He sat with his arms crossed and eyes closed. To any other duellist, it would look as though Atem had given up, but Yugi knew his strategy of distracting the opponent. He knew that Atem was going to make it look like he was giving up, when in fact he was going to bring out the best card they had.
'The Cocoon of Evolution combo… no one has ever defeated it before,' Mai thought. She turned to Atem and smirked, 'What will you do, Yugi?'
'Alright,' Atem said to Yugi, 'We're wasting our turns and there are no monsters in our hand strong enough to beat Weevil. Even if we use a multiple card combo, it wouldn't help.'
'I believe in those cards Atem,' Yugi piped in, half glaring. 'We will defeat Weevil and show him how a real duellist acts! If he thinks that we're going to lose Exodia and go home crying, he thought wrong!'
Atem smirked at Yugi's confidence. Yugi was really starting to trust Atem, and that was something he couldn't afford to lose. The only way Atem could live was for the person who completed his puzzle to have trust and faith.
'I know he thought wrong,' Atem finally replied. 'If Weevil thinks that all we need are powerful cards to win a duel, how come it was Seto Kaiba that lost so quickly when we duelled him? It was faith and trust that we needed in order to defeat the world champion! Weevil is going to learn that the easy way… or the hard way!'
Yugi gulped a little. He knew that this card game was going to turn into something really bad if Weevil didn't stop bugging Atem.
Weevil stared in shock as a strange black mist began to crawl onto the field. Atem's face was hidden in the shadows. His knuckles were white with anger as he pressed them hard against the small screen in front of him.
Pegasus smiled darkly as he watched the duel with his Millennium Eye. He chuckled slightly as he brought the same red liquid to his mouth. The lovely taste of his wine and a Shadow Game, how could this day get any better?
"Well Yugi boy," Pegasus began with yet another chuckle. "It seems as though you do know something about using shadow powers. It's still a shame to see something so valuable in the likes of your hands. This duel is no longer important. I wish to see more of what that item can do!"
Yugi felt Atem's anger rise and grow until it finally consumed him. They both began to think as one as though they were both the same person. They glanced up at Weevil with and evil smirk and sent fear into Weevil's soul. The fear in Weevil's eyes as he starred back into Atem's crimson glare grew. This only caused Yugi and Atem to smirk wider.
"What the heck is going on," Weevil finally cried as he found his voice.
Yugi and Atem started chuckling, and then it grew to laughing. It finally turned into the most spine chilling laugh that no one could have possibly imagined. Not even in their worst nightmares. Mai jumped, Téa screamed, Joey starred with shock and Tristan was too frightened to move. Weevil still had it worse. He was shaking in his boots, literally.
"Weevil," Atem and Yugi glared. At the mention of his name, Weevil jumped at least three inches from the ground. Atem and Yugi began chuckling, "Do you still think you can win with will power? You scare your opponents into giving up and losing the duel. You're not a duellist, you're a disgrace! You've even wound me up pretty good, but I'll show you that I'm not someone who gives up that easily. What you see around you is no illusion or trick. You've forced my thumb and now this duel is a Shadow Game!"
"Fine," Weevil shouted shockingly. "I still have my cocoon and there's nothing you can do to destroy it!"
"Just watch me," Atem and Yugi sneered. Since Weevil completed his turn when Atem was talking to Yugi, it was now back to their turn. They drew a card and passed their turn.
Weevil snickered, "Just as I thought! You can't do it!"
Atem and Yugi grinned.
'No way,' Mai thought, 'there's no way he found a way out of Weevil's combo!'
Weevil drew a card, but passed. Since the Cocoon of Evolution was on his side of the field, he wasn't allowed to play any cards until the Great Moth emerged.
"Combo attack," Atem and Yugi shouted. They placed two cards on the field and attacked with Curse of Dragon.
"It's no use! Weren't you listening to me Yugi? You are so stupid! That dragon isn't strong enough to destroy my cocoon!"
"I never said I was attacking the cocoon."
"What," Weevil exclaimed while gasping for air.
"What I've attacked is the forest itself," Atem and Yugi explained. The forest was burnt and the second card they played was revealed to be Burning Land.
"No way," Weevil and Mai shouted at the same time.
"Gaia attack," Atem and Yugi ordered. Gaia raced forward and cracked the cocoon in half. It fell apart and the moth that managed to grow in the past few turns came out.
Weevil smiled and was about to announce his victory, when he noticed that Atem and Yugi were both still smiling. "You're going to lose, but you're laughing?"
"Yeah, I told you Weevil, you're a coward. When I see my opponent's most powerful monsters, I get excited! This is your last turn and on the next I will win! I'm going to swat that overgrown mosquito!"
"I'd like to see you try Yugi," Weevil growled.
'Alright,' the two partners though in sync, 'Beaver Warrior and Gaia can't fly, but Curse of Dragon can. He's too weak to attack though! I need a monster with 2700 ATK or I can't win… I've got it! Weevil just needs to do his turn then I'll be ready.'
"Great Moth Attack," Weevil ordered. "Gaia is dead!"
Atem and Yugi quickly drew their card and activated it just in time. "You'd like to think he's dead, wouldn't you?"
Atem and Yugi held up Polymerization with a great smirk. "Gaia the Dragon Champion! That's right Weevil, that card has the power to combine two of my great servants together."
"Great servants," Weevil questioned. "They are just cards!"
"Unlike you, I like to treat cards with respect. My heart and my grandfather's heart are in this deck and there's nothing stronger than that! And Weevil," they chuckled, "they aren't just cards."
Weevil began to laugh really hard. It wasn't at the words Atem and Yugi had just said though, it was at the fact that Gaia the Dragon Champion was losing ATK points!
"My Great Moth has poison in its wings Yugi! Your champion can't compete with it! Not anymore!"
"Fine," Atem and Yugi grunted. "I use this card, Magic Mist!"
Weevil smiled wickedly. He attacked with the Great Moth and he did it! He beat Yugi Muto, the world champion... or so he thought. "What," Weevil exclaimed as he saw the screen once more, "You planted a decoy!"
"Yes," Atem and Yugi replied, "Now it's my turn. I'll attack great moth with this card! Summoned Skull and, in case you haven't noticed, when Magic Mist was played this area became a swamp land. Not only does that decrease the power of your Great Moth, but it increases the power of my Summoned Skull!"
"No," Weevil shouted as if he was just banned from every privilege he ever had.
Atem and Yugi attacked. The won the duel, got two star chips and Weevil was forced into a simple penalty game. Luckily this Shadow Game wasn't directly in the Shadow Realm, if it was, Weevil would have been lost forever. Instead he would be kicked off the island and brought to a hospital. The effects of the illusion would only last a couple weeks and then Weevil would wake up, hopefully he would remember the lesson taught to him today.
