Here it is. The long awaited Chapter Five! I'm not too sure how I like this chapter. It feels too rushed to me. It's unedited so sorry for any mistakes. Make sure you read the A/N at the bottom of this chapter.

Update as of 7/14/14: This chapter has been edited and revised. Enjoy

Chapter Five

Jason paced the room waiting for Piper to arrive. He was irritated from all the meetings he'd had to suffer through that day and having to deal with Octavian contradicting everything he said. If it wasn't for the fact that Octavian was known as the Royal Oracle, Jason would've banished him from the palace as soon as he meet the guy. And on top of that, he felt as if his council was keeping something from him. Jason felt the uneasy atmosphere during the meeting that day and he could only hope that maybe he was the one that felt uneasy and that everything was actually okay.

The knock on the door pulled Jason from his thoughts and he nearly ran to open it. When he did, he was a little angry at how pale Piper looked. She was visibly shaking and Jason wondered if she remembered that she needed to eat more. He didn't need a repeat of the last time he tried to talk to her privately. When she fainted down in the dungeon, Jason nearly had a heart attack with worry and guilt. He did not want to face the wrath of Aphrodite, and he begrudgedly admitted to himself that he also didn't want any harm to come to Piper.

"Are you okay?" he asked her.

Piper nodded. "I'm fine."

Jason watched her curiously for a second and noticed that her hands were shaking even more than before. He stepped aside and motioned for her to come in.

"Maybe you should sit down," he told her.

Piper hesitated for a second and then slowly made her way towards Jason's bed. She cautiously took a seat on it and Jason sat down next to her. She gulped as he did so and Jason couldn't help but wonder if she was afraid of him. He didn't want her to be afraid of him. He hated how slaves were treated and he didn't understand why someone thought having concubines was a good idea. As much as he liked being catered, he secretly wished the idea of slavery was never thought of. And he didn't support the act of making women do things with their body that they didn't want.

Jason searched Piper's face to see if he could tell what she was thinking. She was gorgeous, he realized, with her dark brown hair and multi-colored eyes. She had high cheekbones and full lips that were oddly in the kissing position. Jason looked back at her eyes and saw they were closed. She was leaning towards Jason and he started to lean away from her.

"Uhh, Piper, what are you d-," Jason began but Piper cut him off by capturing his lips in hers. He jumped in surprise, sending him tumbling off the bed and landing roughly on the ground with Piper on his chest. Piper's eyes were wide, much like his own, and her cheeks were flushed.

Piper bit her lip. "I'm sorry, was I not supposed to do that?"

"Do what? Kiss me?" Jason asked, bemused.

Piper nodded. "It's just, I know what concubines do. You use us for… you know. That stuff," she said, gesturing towards the area between her legs.

Jason laughed and Piper squirmed on his chest. He sat up and she fell down onto his lap. She jumped off and sat down on the ground besides him, leaning back so she was resting against the bed.

"Piper, that's not why I called you in here. I've actually needed to talk to you. Down in the dungeon I tried to and that didn't exactly turn out too well," Jason said.

Piper lowered her head and Jason would've given anything in that moment to know what she was thinking.

"I'm sorry, I didn't know. When Mellie said you wanted to see me in your room… and the other girls looked at me as if they knew what was going to happen… I just assumed that…" Piper bit her lip again and continued staring at the floor.

Jason sighed. "Look at me Piper." He stared at her until she finally looked up and met his eyes. "The Romans and Greeks have never gotten along well. If it was up to me, I'd try to make peace between all of Rome's rivals. But the other Romans have too much pride and the decision isn't just up to me. I'd have to get the majority of the council to agree to try to make a truce with the other nations, and the majority of everyone in the council are too power hungry to do that."

"Then why can't I go home?" Piper asked. "Why do you need me to stay here?"

Jason rubbed his chin with his right hand, something he always did when he was trying to process his thoughts into words. "From the way my soldiers have described it, there isn't really much of a home for you to return to. And you're too closely related to King Perseus. If I sent you back and you told him what happened, the Greeks would be on their way over here and war would be inevitable. I'm sorry Piper, but I can't send you home."

Piper nodded tensely and Jason tried to ignore how pained she looked.

"I think we got off to a bad start," Jason said. "I know you feel like this is a prison now, but I hope someday you could come to think of Rome as your home. I don't want to use you as a concubine. For some reason unbeknownst to me, the fates have stuck us together and there's obviously a reason for it. But I will not, under any circumstances, force you to do something with your body you don't want to."

Piper stared at him for a second and searched his eyes, before she smiled softly. "Thank you," she whispered and Jason knew he had said something right for once.

"I want you to be able to trust me," Jason told her. "I'm not the ruthless emperor I'm sure your people have made me out to be. I want to be your friend, Piper. I'm going to give you free reign of the palace grounds. You can go anywhere, you just can't leave the property. I'm trusting you that you won't try to run away. And in return, I want you to trust me when I say you won't get hurt here."

Piper stayed silent for a while and Jason gave her time to process what he just said. He had thought long and hard, and he had decided that if he wanted Piper to be comfortable in Rome, then he would need to treat her like he would a friend. He tried to convince himself he was only doing it because of what Aphrodite said, but he knew in the back of his mind it had nothing to do with the Greek love goddess.

"I trust you," Piper finally said. "Mellie had mentioned that you weren't a bad guy. She was right."

Jason gave Piper a genuine smile, one he reserved for the few people he was close to in the palace, and he was happy when Piper returned his with a brilliant one of her own.

Piper's mind went blank as she stared into Emperor Jason's eyes. They were gorgeous, an electric blue she had only seen on one other person back in Greece. She wondered how many other girls had been mesmerized by the Emperor's eyes.

The Emperor cleared his throat and Piper was pulled back to reality. Emperor Jason stood up and motioned for Piper to do the same. He sat down on his bed and patted the seat beside him for Piper to take a seat.

"You can sit here as long as you don't try to kiss me again," the Emperor joked.

Piper blushed and sat down on the plush bed besides him.

"So tell me the full story about you and King Perseus," Emperor Jason said. "You had mentioned yesterday how you two were supposed to be married."

Piper fiddled with her fingers while she thought of how she was going to explain the complicated story to the Emperor.

"I was ten and Percy was twelve," she began. "He's the only son of Poseidon back in Greece. His mother was Queen Sally, married to the deceased King Paul. When he died without an heir, Poseidon took pity on the Queen and together they bore a son."

"Prince Perseus," the Emperor said.

"Correct," Piper said. "When he was twelve he was able to take over Greece from his mother. Greece is made up of many city states, each one with their own government or royalty. The King watches over the nation and makes sure each city state is running smoothly. He's our supreme ruler. I was ten when Percy was coroneted. At the time we both lived in Athens. We had grown up together, and Poseidon decided we should get married when Percy turned sixteen. A few months later, I befriended a daughter of Athena, named Annabeth. I invited her to join me when I spent time with Percy. At first, all they did was argue, but eventually they became best friends and fell in love with each other. Poseidon was mad because she was a daughter of Athena, one of his rivalries, but Percy was truly in love with Annabeth and eventually he gave the two his blessing to get married. I was happy for them and I looked up to Annabeth as an older sister since my only family is my dad and he was busy a lot. I was sad when they moved to the island where Percy now lives to rule over Greece, but I visited them a lot. A month before Percy's sixteenth birthday, Annabeth decided she was going to visit her father back in Athens and try to make amends with him. He never really accepted the fact that she was a demigod and she never fit in with his new family. Their relationship was really complicated and Annabeth just wanted one last opprotunity to talk to her father before she became the queen."

After a few beats of silence Emperor Jason asked, "She never came back, did she?"

Piper shook her head. "Percy was heartbroken. He's never stopped looking for her."

Piper studied the Emperor to see what his reaction would be. She knew Annabeth was here in Rome, but Emperor Jason didn't know she knew that. The Emperor was staring at his feet which made it harder to see his face.

After a while, Emperor Jason finally said something. "I've met Annabeth once. I don't know if she's the same Annabeth that your King is in love with, but I'm pretty positive it was her."

Piper tried to sound surprised as she asked "You have?

The Emperor nodded. "On my tenth birthday, the day I was going to be recognized as the next Emperor of Rome, my father came to visit me. He brought two girls and a boy with him. The older girl was around sixteen with really short black hair and blue eyes the same color as mine. Her name was Thalia."

"And the other girl was Annabeth," Piper stated.

"Yeah. She had really curly blonde hair and grey eyes. The boy they were with was probably in his twenties. He had a jagged scar on his face. I think his name was Luke. Anyways, my father said it was time I met my sister. I had never met my mother before. I was told she died when I was little."

Piper nodded her head to show she was listening and for him to keep going.

The Emperor gave her a small smile. "Jupiter told me that the black haired girl was my sister. Her name was Thalia. We had the same mother, but her father was Jupiter's Greek form, Zeus. He said I had a right to meet her, but we wouldn't be able to talk after that day. If anyone found out I was related to a Greek, I would be stripped of my throne."

"That's terrible," Piper said. "You've never seen her since then?"

Emperor Jason shook his head. "No, I haven't. The last I heard she had joined the hunters of Artemis. She had known she had a brother, but Zeus/Jupiter kept us apart until we were both old enough to understand why we weren't allowed to see each other. Apparently she had run away from home with Luke and Annabeth when she was younger. They lived together and created their own family. "

Piper waited for the Emperor to continue, but he never did. She could tell there was more to the story.

"What happened after that?" she asked.

"I don't know really. We talked for a second before Jupiter took them away. From what I heard from your story, I'm guessing they returned home and went their separate ways. Annabeth met you and the King. Thalia joined the hunters. I don't know what happened to Luke."

"He died," Piper blurted out.

Emperor Jason looked shocked for a second. "You knew Luke?"

"I did. He died a few months after I met Annabeth. It was really hard on her. I've met your sister a few times, too. Before she joined the hunters, she'd hang out with Annabeth, Percy and I."

"I wish other people would see it," the Emperor said.

Piper was confused. "See what?"

"That the Greeks are exactly the same as the Romans." The Emperor seemed

troubled as he said this.

Piper tried to lighten the mood but she felt she only made it worse when she said, "Well, the Greeks aren't exactly the same as the Romans. We don't run around burning villages and collecting prisoners.

The Emperor either didn't hear or ignored her comment. "We've had a rivalry with the Greeks for as long as I can remember. You guys have a different culture than us, but when it comes down to it, I don't really think we're all that different. But you can't tell anyone I said that. It's just something I've thought over a few times."

"We've grown up hating the Romans," Piper admitted. "You burn down our cities and you capture our people. But I think you're right. If everyone could see we're all just people, maybe then we could have peace."

"Peace is never easy," the Emperor said. "We've been at war with so many people and we have too many enemies. Maybe Rome can find peace in the furture, but for now there's really nothing any of us can do."

Piper tried her best to keep the disappointed look off her face.

Thalia hid behind the bush right outside the shed she had seen the King disappear inside. He returned a few minutes later with his armor on and a sword strapped to his side. Thalia glanced down and made sure her own armor was secured before she hopped out from behind the bush and yelled "Boo!"

Percy whipped around and put the point of his sword right under Thalia's chin. He grinned when he noticed it was only Thalia.

"Thalia! What are you doing here?" he asked.

Thalia shrugged. "I only came to visit my favorite King of Greece."

Percy chuckled. "I'm the only King of Greece."

Thalia gave him a cheeky grin and followed as Percy walked down to the swords arena.

"I've heard you've been down lately," Thalia said. "What's happened this time to get your toga in a twist?"

Percy studied her. "You haven't heard?"

Thalia stared at her friend curiously. "Heard what?"

Percy rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly. "Thals, maybe this isn't the best place to talk about this."

Thalia narrowed her eyes and produced a tiny electric current between her fingers. "Perseus Jackson, you tell me what happened right now."

Percy sighed. "They have Piper."

"They? Who's they?" Thalia demanded.

"I'm guessing the Romans. They invaded the northern border of Athens. They destroyed most of the houses up there and took all the survivors as prisoners," Percy said angrily.

"This has been going on for far too long," Thalia hissed. "The Romans can't keep doing this. They can't keep taking your people. You need to do something Percy!"

Percy ran his hand down his face. "I'm working on it. This is the final straw. Trust me when I say they aren't going to be getting away with this any longer."

I'm looking for a beta. A few of you offered and I'm grateful you guys did. If anyone is interested, please send me an email or PM. When I post the next chapter to Unmatched, I'm going to request for you send in a short sample writing. Thanks :)

After months and months and two really annoying author notes, here is the next chapter. I've been reading/editing Unmatched and I'm changing a few details. I will be replacing the older chapters with the newer, edited/fixed ones. I changed a few details here and there and I changed a few scenes but the general plot is still the same. I'll be posting the updated chapters within the next two hours. I'm not to sure how I like how this chapter has turned out. It's very slow and mostly just Piper and Jason talking. But I do think it's very important in order for their relationship to begin to grow.

REVIEW and tell me what you think of this chapter. I can always go back and rewrite it if it doesn't fit with the story.

If any of you want to know about how I'm doing, here it is. I went camping and got in a major fight with my best friend. Long story short, she's always been a bit of a 'homie hopper' aka a (slut) and I finally snapped and told her she can't go around making out with guys she's known for two hours (we are only 14), which she did basically every day while we were camping. She's done very bad things with guys and I don't want to be around her anymore. Anyhow, this happened Thursday, and yesterday her mom texted my mom basically saying I was lying and my friend is innocent (which isn't true because the guys we meant all said the same thing I did) I got in a huge fight with my mom and broke down and somehow I told her everything that's going on with me. I told her about my self harm, how I didn't eat, how it's hard to sleep, how bad my depression is, and how I can't stand people. And she completely understood. She didn't get mad or look disappointed. She just hugged me and said she was going to make me feel okay again. My dad on the other hand took it harder. He got really mad and blamed me for making myself this way and my mom said no one chooses to make themselves mentally ill. Long story short, my dad came around and I'm going to the doctors on Monday to see where I should go see a therapist/councilor.

I just want to thank all of you, for standing by me and saying all those nice things to me. I love you guys. I truly do.

Has anyone seen the full trailer for Catching Fire? It's seriously amazing I can't wait! Sea of Monsters comes out in ten days and the City of Bones comes out on the 21st. I'm super excited to see all of them.
