"You look absolutely stunning in that dress."
An electric shock shot through Rachel's spine at the whispered words in her ear. She felt a soft touch on her hip and felt goose bumps rise along her arms.
"You really do." The breath from the words tickled at her neck and sped up her heart beat to an alarming rate. "You've come a long way."
"Thank you." was her only coherent reply. She slid her chocolate eyes shut, trying to calm the racing of her heart as she felt soft lips press against her temple.
"Enjoy the evening, Rachel. It's yours." And with those words, the body heat behind her disappeared, as did their familiar scent.
The event was to celebrate the completion of the brand new Performing Arts Center in Lima, Ohio.
Rachel had donated a good sum of money towards its construction. A magnum opus of philanthropy, if you will. It was her pride and joy. Her way of always having a piece of her heart in Lima, no matter how much she had wanted to leave the small town behind during her high school years.
The rest of her heart however…
Rachel, with a champagne glass in hand, stood stock still, slowly gaining back the composure that had been so skillfully ripped away from her.
She turned around and scanned the ballroom for the face of her perpetrator. There were hundreds of people at the Gala, but only one person seemed to stand out from the rest.
A flash of gold and twinkling hazel irises invaded her vision, then quickly disappeared as the woman blended in with crowd.
A light, awestruck smile rose to Rachel's lips. Quinn looked absolutely beautiful tonight. Her silky, red dress glinted and flowed like liquid with every step she took. Her now medium length, flaxen hair was slightly curled and elegantly set about her shoulders. It swayed with every slight movement of the woman's body. Her cream colored skin glowed beautifully, and her red-tinted lips, gorgeous smile and laughter lit up the entire room.
The very sight of her caused Rachel's mouth to run dry.
Her previous smile brightened to blinding heights.
'I'm doomed.' The singer thought to herself. The emotions that the woman brought out of her were unexplainable and completely unexpected. She couldn't believe this was happening. She didn't want it to happen initially. But she was happy.
So inexplicably happy that her heart burst in an incredible display of fireworks just at the thought of her.
Chocolate brown eyes finally met the hooded gaze of hazel eyes across the room.
Rachel Berry was absolutely and irrevocably in love with Quinn Fabray.
