Hurts more than you know.
"Give me love like her, 'cause lately I've been waking up alone, give a little time to me, or burn this out, we'll play hide and seek to turn this around"
Beth couldn't stop the feeling in her stomach, the rotting, festering emptiness that had held her captive ever since she told Huff. That she didn't want him to come home.
It was a fatal mistake, a lie, she loved him; couldn't live without him, God she could barely sleep without him next to her, holding her. She, Beth Huffstodt was destroying her family, Byrd was struggling, and Izzy was spiralling.
Why did it have to hurt? He didn't know, he didn't understand. She was suffering, falling apart where she stood; Huff couldn't see how much every little thing hurt.
All his knowledge of people, feelings and emotions but he didn't know how she had been falling, and she put all her energy into helping Huff after Sam's suicide. Byrd and growing up into a young man. Izzy and her stupid problems, she had to become a rock and in turn avoided her own problems.
Maybe she had just become good at hiding it. Lying to herself and her family, pretending that all was fine, being strong to keep it all together but still her life had unravelled at the seams.
Beth needed to talk to Huff, but how? Was she going to breakdown, cry on his shoulder? Was she going to give up on her family and leave him?
Her heart teared at the thought of him not being there. No one there to hold, to love. She had Byrd but she knew the truth was both her and Huff had bottled their feelings like Fiji Water they had lost what made them special, what made them work.
They needed to tell each other the truth, they used to be so honest and open, but over the last two years they had shut down. She needed to say it. To tell him everything, to tell him the truth.
"It hurts more than you know Huff, but I love you" Beth whispered, tears cascading down her cheeks.
He looked into her eyes, he too had been crying, the tears made a glistening pathway down both their faces. "I love you too Beth" His lips turned up at the corners, the ice that held his heart during their separation lifted.
He reached out and placed his hands onto her hips. His office seemed to fade around him as he pulled her closer.
They both stared into each other; a beautiful silence reined. The silence of true love where no words could sum up all they needed to say. Gently he reached up and cupped the softness of her cheek.
Slowly he pushed her hair behind her ear his touch was light and feathery. Beth's body moved with the familiarity of it. Their lips swam towards each other barely touching, they exchanged air for a final second and then finally all their passion, all the things they had left unsaid came to a head.
Although they still needed to talk, although there was still issues unresolved they knew they could get through them. Because they already had what they longed for, inside each other.
"Love is the answer, at least for most of the questions in my heart, like why are we here? And where do we go? And how come it's so hard? It's not always easy, and sometimes life can be deceiving, I'll tell you one thing, it's always better when we're together"
