Author's Note: This story was gone when I checked last night, and I had never removed it. Did that ever happen to you guys? Anyway, enjoy! :)

He's doing it again.

Smiling. Peeta's smiling at me.

I scowl, trying to return to my dinner. I still feel his gaze on me. Lately, he's been doing this so frequently, it's getting annoying.

When I sleep, his smile is the last thing I see. When I eat, he smiles at me from the other side of the table. When I watch TV, he's looking at me, not the screen.

It's not just him.

The neighbours do this these days, too. Wide smiles and broad grins from the people I pass by. Winks from the old man in the shoe shop. Beams from the family of six redheads. Grins from the miners on their way to work. Pleased looks from Sae.

And of course, the knowing smile from Haymitch. Something's in the air, sweetheart, he seems to say, Can you feel it?

Oh, I can feel it. I can feel it a lot. Lately, all these smiles and knowing glances have gotten me annoyed to no end. At first, I thought it was something in my teeth or a rip in my clothes. But the smiles aren't mocking, they're simply happy.

I look up from my beans and see Peeta smiling again. I narrow my eyes at him, but he doesn't get the hint.

"Peeta," I hiss, "Stop that."

"Stop what?" he asks, still smiling.

"Smiling!" I say, "Why are you smiling?"

"I'm happy."

He shrugs. "We're alive and the Games don't exist. Isn't that enough reason?"

I sigh. "Yes, but…you know what I mean! You've been smiling at me. Heck, everyone's been smiling at me these days!"

Peeta looks at me mock-bashfully. "Probably because you're so purdy."

I kick at him under the table. "I'm serious, Peeta! All this smiling is getting to my head!"

"You're a positive one." Peeta says drily.

I flick a bean at him with my fork. It lands squarely between his eyes. I smile smugly. "Now, tell me why everyone's been smiling at me. I mean, even Haymitch is doing it! Is there something going on?"

He shakes his head quickly. "No." He pauses, "Not that…I mean, I wouldn't know."

I rest my chin on my hands. "Oh, really? Then tell me, Mr. Mellark, why are you smiling at me?"

Peeta smiles. "You light up my day, beautiful. That's why."

I roll my eyes, wondering why my cheeks were getting red. "Eat your beans." I tell him.

"You know," he says after a while, "You could jump aboard the bandwagon."

I scowl. "What do you mean?"

He grins. "Instead of being annoyed at everyone for smiling, you could try smiling back." Under his breath, he adds, "It's better than scowling all day."

"I heard that," I warn, still scowling.

Our dinner is complete, so I take my plate and head over to the kitchen. Peeta follows with his. He grabs my hand. "Wait, Katniss."

I turn. "What?"

"You're beautiful."

I roll my eyes, placing my plate in the sink. Peeta does the same. When I reach for the dish soap, Peeta's hand stops mine.

"What?" I ask impatiently.

"So beautiful." He says, leaning in.

As his lips touch my nose, I can't help but smile.

"Now, see?" he says, "That's much better."
