Did Somebody Say Mom?
"That's the last box."
Edward's voice sends tingles across my skin, and looking at him wearing nothing but a pair of board shorts, bare chested does other things to different parts of my anatomy.
The last time I ever saw Edward Cullen in a pair of short was at La Push. I used to like to go sit and read where there was nothing but the crash of the waves to keep me company. It just so happened that Edward was an avid swimmer, and for the life of me I could never understand why he'd want to submerge his ass in that cold, ball sack shriveling water.
"Looks that way," I tell him. "What time did the movers say that they'd be here?
"In about two hours. I left your shampoo and stuff out in case you wanted to shower before we leave.
Before I can respond, there's a light knocking at the front door.
"You expecting someone, baby?" Edward asks as I make my way to answer the door.
"Just the movers," I say, and when I open the door my heart begins to beat double time.
The one person I haven't spoken to in weeks looks like she's been run over by a bulldozer, hit by a Mack truck, looking completely saddened. It instantly breaks my heart.
The footsteps behind me stop dead in their tracks, and I wonder if Edward is feeling the same way that I am.
"I've been trying to call you," she says in a small voice. And from behind her, standing next to Alice's Prius, is another woman looking just as shitty as Alice. "Then I finally tried your work and they said that you'd quit. I got worried."
For a moment I have the urge to embrace my best friend and tell her everything, from the baby to Edward's proposal. But I can't. She hurt him. I'd like to think that she didn't, but she did. My one solid thought is the need to stand by the man who I am going to spend the rest of my life with.
I watch Alice's eyes as they dart behind me, obviously noticing the moving boxes ready to go. Her eyes go wide when the realization finally hits her.
"Are you moving?" She asks with a bit of shock in her voice, and then sheer panic. "What's going on, Bella?"
Right when I begin to speak the woman standing next to Alice's car is running up to my front door. Her eyes widen and tears streaming down her face.
"Oh my God! Edward?"
When I turn around Edward is mere inches from me and I realize that tears are forming around his eyes.
"Edward?" Is all that I can get out because I really don't recognize the lady, or what in the hell Alice has done now, or even why Edward is crying.
Before I can scream at Alice, Edward says just one small word that literally sends me reeling.
