Notes: This is from this week's theme: "first date".

They've always been together since as long as he can remember, and his constant presence by his side is an unchangeable relationship that he truly appreciates, yet sometimes feel undeserved. Shun is someone his mother would have probably wanted – rather than a handful of twin troublemakers who like to talk back – and he admits that he wouldn't mind having Shun live with him.

But it is precisely because he knows Shun so well that he's afraid of altering their established friendship too much. He knows his quirks and eating habits, his favourite food and interests, and they exchange mail so often—that sometimes even he's confused about where they stand.

Shun is naturally shy and he doesn't speak much except to appease his company. Does he see him as more than a platonic friend? He doesn't know and he's scared, but surprisingly, it's Shun who drops him subtle hints; so subtle that he misses about half of them. Hand-holding isn't uncommon between them – it has always been their way to reassure each other – but that day, it feels foreign, but the warmth is ten times as strong, as welcoming.

Two hesitant smiles, and a tighter squeeze.

On a rare chance that they finally get to go out alone – just the two of them because Yuuki has (for once) a meeting with his club, and Kaname is overrun with his student council responsibilities, and Chizuru is in a lecture with his homeroom teacher – Yuuta takes a leap of faith and treats it like how lovey-dovey couples would.

It feels different than when he went along with Takahashi; with her, there had been no nervousness. But with Shun, he knows he shouldn't feel anxious yet he is, even if he puts up a nonchalant face to hide everything. He chews on his straw and nods every now and then to Shun's chatter, chuckling when a bit of the milkshake dribbles down his chin, and he reflexively leans forward to wipe it off his date's face.

Yuuta freezes, but Shun's smile reassures him that it's normal – they're normal – and his soft thank you is all he needs after all.
