Time for the protagonist angst! Huzzah!
I've had this in my mind for a while now. Spoilers below.
It was the first time Luffy had remained silent when they landed on an island. And the Straw Hats didn't blame him.
It was Ace and Whitebeard's graves island.
Luffy's smile had dropped when he saw Ace's hat sway in the wind. Not a single word was said between anybody when they set foot on the island, making their way towards the gravestones. Luffy's eyes were covered by a dark shadow when they reached them.
Each Straw Hat had a one-sided conversation with Ace and Whitebeard, Luffy going last.
He didn't say a word. He just sat cross legged, staring at Ace's grave.
He lost track of time. Hours had passed, his crew were lounging about the Sunny while Luffy remained in the same position. The crew were worried, he didn't even ask Sanji for meat at the usual time.
Nami took it upon herself to go up and bring him back after 1 day. The log poses had set and they were almost ready to go.
Luffy still hadn't moved, apart from his straw hat, which Luffy was pressing against the scar on his chest.
Luffy blinked, turning to Nami. "We... Have to go," Nami said, half afraid that Luffy would be furious at her for suggesting that they leave so soon.
To her surprise, he nodded. Placing his hat on his head, he stood up. Nami walked first.
Luffy glanced behind his back, back at Ace and Whitebeard's graves. He opened his mouth and whispered the only words he had said in the entire island.
Luffy's the kind of guy who would remain silent during that, I think.
