He watched the angry glares given on one side of the classroom, and followed them to the angry and furious chopping on the other side. He went back to his marking, occasionally glancing at the two students that were distracting him in his NEWT level Gryffindor/Slytherin potions class. As time passed, the glares were accompanied by soft sobbing. After allowing this to go on for almost thirty minutes, he had all he could tolerate.
"Mr. Potter! Twenty points from Gryffindor and detention at seven o'clock! As usual,be prepared to clean cauldrons. Do not be late!"
"But, but...Professor-," he stammered, trying to come up with a reasonable excuse.
"Silence! I will accept no excuses, Mr. Potter! Seven o'clock, sharp!"
The boy scowled as he went back to his seat, and began to collect his textbook and notes. He darted his eyes towards the girl across the room and stared at her icily.
As class ended and the seventh years left, Professor Snape returned to his marking until he heard someone clearing their throat at the doorway.
"How long have you been standing there?" It was obvious from his tone of voice that he had been startled.
"Long enough," she said quietly, staring at him inquisitively.
He tapped his fingers on the desk, mentally preparing himself to be berated. Three, two, one...
"Severus, I don't think you can take away house points and assign detention just because James broke up with our daughter. Eileen is seventeen now, and she doesn't need you to interfere."
"Hermione...," he said softly, almost pleadingly.
She simply shook her head, then smiled as she silenced him with a kiss.
A/N...This is the very first story/drabble I ever had written. It has been on my computer for months, and I finally cleaned it up somewhat to post it.
