Only By Releasing Myself
A Doctor Who story
The Doctor could feel his hearts pounding as he opened the door to room number eleven. He looked around the room. He recognized the sound of the Cloister Bell but more importantly he saw his eleven incarnations staring right at him. They started walking into each other, merging into one being. His hearts skipped beats when the being changed from a dark shadowy figure into its full form. He had almost forgotten about this man but he would recognize that bluish black Victorian law outfit, angry expression and icy cold stare anywhere.
The Valeyard, an amalgamation of the darker sides of The Doctor's nature taken from somewhere between his twelfth and final incarnation or so The Master had told him. The Doctor had considered that The Valeyard could actually be his twelfth or final incarnation but he had no way of knowing for certain and considering everything that has happened and that will happen since that trial he knew that there was a possibility that The Valeyard may never exist and yet there was also a possibility that The Valeyard would most definitely exist. There were so many unanswered questions about The Valeyard's existence. Maybe The Valeyard's existence was what The Silence was trying to prevent by killing The Doctor at Lake Silencio during his eleventh incarnation.
The Doctor couldn't help but think that if by some miracle he survived the events at Lake Silencio he would be one step closer to creating or becoming The Valeyard. Who represents what The Doctor fears the most, his inner darkness.
"Only by releasing myself from the misguided maxims that you nurture can I be free." Said The Valeyard from inside room number eleven. The Doctor's pupils dilated.
"Of course. Who else?" Said The Doctor.
He closed the door and put a do not disturb sign around the knob.
