From the Beginning

From the beginning, we knew the end.

We had to fight for our friend,

Watched as worlds burned.

We didn't care for medals earned,

Or the point of living.

We never noticed the lives we were saving,

Nor the fresh recruits within our ranks.

Fought alongside Hogs and tanks,

ODSTs and a Spartan too.

And when that Elite looks at you,

You knew your time had come.

Yet the war is not done,

Not while you continue to breath.

All a soldier needs is a reason to believe.

*I dedicate this poem to the men and women of the Armed Forces, in the past and present, living and deceased. May we soon know peace.*
