No Brother of Mine

Thor knew that this day was coming. He had secretly hoped that it would never come. Thor sat high on his throne when the servant came and bowed at his feet.

"Rise, humble one," Thor muttered.

He stood and pointed at the door. "We have Loki restrained, sir. Are you ready to bring him in?"

"No," Thor said. "I am not ready. Bring him in, anyway."

The servant nodded and scampered out the door.

A few moments later, Loki was shoved into the room, muzzled and bound. He was wearing a thin, green shirt and equally thin black pants. He would have been freezing in the cold winter air had it not been for his true heritage. When Loki approached Thor's throne he was forced to kneel.

"Take the muzzle off," Thor ordered.

When the thing on Loki's face was removed, Thor could see Loki's features well. It broke his heart to see the cuts and bruises from his beatings in his cell.

"Loki Odinson," Thor boomed. "You-"

"Laufeyson," Loki interrupted. "My name is Loki Laufeyson."

Thor's face fell when he heard that. "Very well then, Loki Laufeyson, you have been charged with the murder of over 400 humans, and injuring countless others. You destroyed well over half of Manhattan Island. On Earth, you would be killed for your crimes, do you understand?"

Loki remained calm. "You wouldn't kill your own brother, would you, Thor?"

Thor narrowed his eyes. "You said it yourself, Loki. You are Loki Laufeyson. I am Thor Odinson, and Loki, you are no brother of mine."

The gathered crowd went silent. All eyes were on the two gods. Even Odin was surprised by Thor's sudden hostility towards Loki.

Thor and Loki had a silent stare down. Loki was finally dragged away.

Even years later, Thor couldn't get Loki's garbled, strangled scream out of his head. He had done the right thing…

Hadn't he?
