I'M REALLY SORRY FOR NOT UPDATING. I SWEAR I AM GOING TO TRY HARDER. REALLY.
So…without further ado, here ya go.
The 20 Minutes of Forever
Why. Why…the heck…was I in the car…with Fang and blondie heading OUT of L.A.
Did you notice the "out" part of that? Yeah. OUT. But neither Fang nor Dylan were concerned. In fact, they had been telling me to "shhh" and to "enjoy the moment" and "for God's sake stop asking so many questions" ever since we started heading east, passing by EVERY car dealership there was. Eventually, Fang just turned up the radio in attempt to drown out my questions and demands.
In other words, I was thoroughly pissed off. WHERE WERE THEY TAKING ME.
"MIND IF YOU TURN IT DOWN, FANG? I WOULD HATE FOR YOU TO MISS HEARING EXACTLY HOW I AM GOING TO KILL YOU WHEN WE GET OUT OF THIS GOD FORSAKEN CAR."
Dylan raised his eyebrows and turned to look back at me. "Do you struggle with violent tendencies? Or maybe anger management?"
"It's kind of funny actually," I yelled over the music. "It didn't start getting bad until after I met Fang."
Dylan feigned surprise. "No. Way!" he said in a sarcastic valley girl voice. "Me too! OMG that is so funny!"
Fang shook his head, his mouth quirked up in a small grin.
I scowled, reached over and turned down the radio. This time, I kept my hand on the dial so Fang couldn't turn it back up. The silence was deafening.
Fang gave me a pointed look. "You are not as adventurous as I had originally thought."
I ignored his comment. "Am I getting a car today, Nick Walker? Because if I'm not and this is just some sort of joy ride, I want absolutely NOTHING to do with it. In fact, if that IS the case, I want to be dropped off right here, right now."
"You don't trust me do you," Fang mused.
"Not really, no. And not only do I not TRUST you, after this I don't think I'll ever look at you or contact you ever again. I could file a report you know, claiming that you tried to kidnap me."
Dylan laughed. "You freely chose to get in the car, Maxie. That's hardly kidnapping. Now if there was duct tape or perhaps a bag involved, your story might be a bit more plausible."
Something inside me snapped. Their cool and calm attitudes despite my distress and anger just made me mad. "You know what? Fine. Whatever. Drive all the way across Cali, see if I care. I am going to text Nudge to come pick me up as soon as we stop. I honestly don't have time for your games, Fang. You guys suck and I hate both of you."
To finish my sort of impressive, but rather childlike rant, I unbuckled and lay down across the back seats.
"Max is throwing a tantrum," Dylan sang.
Fang ignored him. I flipped him off.
"We are gonna stop at a gas station in about 20 minutes, Max. Can you just chill until then? But to answer your question…yes. You are going to get your car."
I felt a rush of relief wash over me. It almost made me forget that I was mad at him.
Fang adjusted the rearview mirror so he could see me. "We're just taking a detour." His black eyes glinted with mischief.
"PAR-TAY TIME," Dylan shouted. "WHOOP WHOOP."
A sinking feeling settled in my stomach. "Oh, my lord. I swear, Fang if we are headed to some club, I will kill you." A rather unnerving flashback came and I involuntarily cringed. That was a bad night. I glanced at Fang. He seemed a little paler, too. I wonder if Dylan knew anything about it.
"You'll see, Max. Just relax."
"I'll relax when I want to, Fang!"
"God Max, why are you so difficult?"
"Why did you decide to take a detour?"
Dylan grinned. "You guys fight like little kids."
"Shut UP, Dylan," we both said at the same time.
He put his hands up in the air. "Just saying…sheeeeese people."
I flopped back onto the seat. 20 minutes. I could do this. Really.
I put my earphones in and closed my eyes. "
"Aww…come on Max. Don't give us the silent treatment!" Dylan looked back at me with wide blue eyes.
Keeping my eyes closed I said, "I'm sorry, I can't hear you over this wonderful noise my ipod is making."
Dylan made a face but took the hint. Fang didn't say anything. Not even the fact that I was unbuckled or that my feet were resting on the opposite window sill. On one hand I was like, "Dang straight. Stay away from me." But on the other hand I was like, "Dude. Why aren't you even slightly worried about my safety?"
WHATEVER. OVERRATED. WHO CARES ABOUT MAX ANYWAYS.
I opened my eyes to see Fang looking at me in the rearview mirror. I raised my eyebrows. He did the same. My stomach did a flippity-flop.
You know those moments where you wish you could slap yourself for being dumb? Repeatedly? Yep. This was one of them. Sort of. What was happening? WHAT IS YOUR ISSUE MAX. I closed my eyes again. I must be intoxicated. There wasn't any other decent proposition.
"How mad would you be if I throw up in your car?"
"I can't say I would be pleased."
I nodded. "As to be expected."
I closed my eyes again.
"You aren't going to throw up are you?"
I tapped my chin. "Currently I feel fine, actually. Despite the fact I am being taken by force to a forsaken gas station."
Fang nodded. "Alright."
Dylan shook his head. "You guys are so odd."
"We? Na-uh. She's odd," Fang said. "I just go along with it."
"Weirdness is catchy," I informed him. "I'm affecting you, Fang."
"FANG IS BEING AFFECTED BY THE BEAUTIFUL MAXIMUM RIDE. This would be a good cover story." Dylan winked.
I groaned, turning up my music.
Almost there, Max. You can do this.
