She spoke to the earth.

Her mother taught her how to, when she was just a tiny little thing. She had always heard it speaking to her, but she had to learn how to speak back. It was easy; they were connected by something that ran deep inside her. It was like discovering a part of herself.

She spoke to the earth.

The first time she kissed Tenzin, she spoke to the earth and it replied, catching him in a rocky fist, leaving him to stare, shocked and giddy, as she ran away.

She spoke to the earth.

When her mother died, she wept and the earth wept with her. She grieved where no one would see, alone with the earth her mother had taught her everything about. She closed her eyes to watch as her mother's empty shell was brought deep into the earth, to return to that which she loved so dearly.

She spoke to the earth.

At Tezin's wedding, she watched the happy couple accepting the congratulations of their family and friends. She turned and walked outside, sat down on the cool, comforting stone overlooking the water. She lay back and sank into the earth, letting it soothe her aching heart, shut out the sounds of the festivities inside.

She spoke to the earth.

Her last stand, her finale. She knew this might be the last time she would move together with the earth in their deadly dance. She felt the purified earth covering the ship, and let her mind focus on the metal surrounding her.

She spoke to the earth.

One last time, the earth comforted her. She listened, remembered their shared past, and said goodbye. She closed her eyes, only hearing the earth.

Then, everything went silent.
