I have decided to attempt to rework this. No promises, but I will make the effort. I am taking down all of the other chapters for editing as well.
I do not own Bleach.
This takes place some time after the end of Inheritance
Ichigo blinked awake... and leaped backwards when he saw the giant blue dragon staring at him. What the hell? Since when did dragons exist? Is it going to eat me? There appeared to be a teenager on the dragon's back. So maybe this dragon was tame, or as tame as a dragon got anyway, and wasn't going to eat him. Ichigo unsheathed Zangetsu just to be safe.
He backed up a few steps, and held Zangetsu out in front of him, ready to defend himself if this immense creature attacked. He glanced around quickly and concluded that this was nowhere he'd been. The spirit particles felt weird here, too. He wasn't entirely sure how he'd describe it. It wasn't that there were less of them, just that they were different... somehow. So where was he?
"Who are you?" the human on the dragon's back asked. No, he wasn't human. His reiatsu was different... and he looked somewhat like an elf, like an actual elf out of a book. Strange.
"Why do you want to know? And who are you? And why the heck are you riding a dragon? And where the hell am I?" Ichigo asked, his grip tightening slightly on Zangetsu just in case the dragon and rider attacked.
"I am Eragon Shadeslayer," the elf/human replied. "I want to know because I have never seen you before. For what other reason would I ask someone's name? The dragon's name is Saphira, and I am riding her because we were flying before we spotted you. As to where you are... you are outside of Alegaesia-"
"What is Alegaesia?" Ichigo interrupted.
"It's um, you know, the civilized lands back that way." Eragon vaguely waved a hand behind him. He watched the young man in front of him closely, finding it rather odd that he didn't know what Alegaesia was. Perhaps he was from outside of it? Maybe he could help him find a new home for the Riders?
"I am Ichigo," Ichigo said. "Is your dragon intelligent?" They are in some books, after all. Wait, Saphira, that name sounds familiar... now where have I heard that name before? Eragon, too.
Saphira growled in response, rather unhappy that her intelligence was being called into question. [Can I eat him now?] she asked mentally. Ichigo jumped slightly.
"Oh, I see. She's like your zanpakuto, is that right? Except out all the time?"
"You heard her?" Eragon asked, surprised.
"Of course. Plain and clear..." Ichigo replied. She had sounded somewhat like Zangetsu did on the occaisons that he spoke up.
Shut up, Ichigo growled at his Hollow. Why couldn't you go away after I killed you?
Aww, but I did! For like a week, too... his Hollow protested.
Just... shut up.
"Hmm. That aside, what is a zanpakuto?" Eragon asked, unaware of the mental conversation going on in front of him.
"So she isn't one, then," Ichigo said. He still held Zangetsu out in front of him, though.
"Why are you carrying that weird thing?" Eragon asked curiously.
"It's not a weird thing!" Ichigo protested vehemently. "It's my zanpakuto, Zangetsu!" Ichigo glanced to the east where he heard a roar of rage. Yellow flames shot up into the sky in a pillar, and Ichigo groaned as Kenpachi's reiatsu flooded over him. He was probably fighting someone, or at the very least was extremely angry.
Ichigo turned back to Saphira and Eragon, but the two were already flying rapidly towards Kenpachi. He sighed, and jumped after them, easily keeping pace with the dragon's flight.
Eragon looked surprised. "How are you doing that?" he asked.
"Doing what?" Ichigo asked back, confused. He wasn't even using Shunpo, there was nothing remarkable about what he was doing.
"Standing on air," Eragon replied.
"I'm not standing on air. I'm standing on spirit particles. And in any case, I'm running on them, or haven't you noticed?"
Eragon shook his head, and muttered something that Ichigo didn't quite catch. They continued heading towards Kenpachi's reiatsu. Before long, he began to stop familiar faces in front of him.
"MATSUMOTO!" screamed a very familiar voice nearby.
"But, Taichou, I didn't do anything wrong!"
"You expect me to believe that you had nothing to do with this?"
"It was probably Korotsuchi-Taichou," said a slightly calmer voice. Ikkaku.
"Doesn't matter, when we get back I'm going to kill him!" Kenpachi yelled.
"Really?" said a polite, soft voice. "But you see, that would be a pain for the 4th squad. We can't resurrect people, you know. See, if you kill someone there will be no healing it. And we just can't have that, can we?"
"S-sorry Unohana-taichou," Kenpachi said. His voice held a tinge of fear.
"Where are we, Ken-chan?" a child's voice asked.
"How should I know? And stop looking around like that. It's ugly."
"Stop calling me that!" 'Sparkles' screamed.
"It's not going to work, Yumi. She'll do it no matter what we say."
"See? Cueball's smart!" Yachiru chirped.
"Don't call me that!"
Ichigo sighed, and descended down to the gathering of Shinigami. Saphira and Eragon followed, landing far more lightly than a creature her size should be able to land.
"Berry-kun!" Mashiro cried, running over to Ichigo. Ichigo fended her off with one hand.
"Mashiro, stop it!" snapped a big man, running over.
"Who are all these people?" Eragon asked, looking over the sea of Shinigami and Vizard.
Ichigo groaned. "People I know. This probably is Kurotsuchi's fault... It would be just like him."
"Who are you?" a calm and quiet voice asked. A man with black hair and gray eyes stood in front of Saphira. His white haori fluttered slightly in the wind. His features were completely composed, giving no hint of what he was thinking.
"Byakuya!" Ichigo said.
"When are you going to start applying the proper suffix?" Byakuya asked. Ichigo ignored the question.
"I apologize for the inconvenience," a silky voice said. "I was conducting an experiment, and it appears that this happened."
"An experiment?!" everyone yelled.
"Yes. I have gathered fascinating data on this occurrence already... give me a few minutes and we will be back shortly. Nemu, begin preparations."
"Yes, Mayuri-sama," Nemu said.
A few minutes later the plain was once again empty of people. Eragon shook his head, wondering what had just happened.
[Perhaps it is better if we continue looking for a home for the new Riders,] Saphira remarked.
Yes, we should.
Chapters in the future will be longer, I promise. :P
Reviews, as always, are appreciated!
