I pull away instantly, disgusted at myself. What am I doing? Yes, I fancy him, I have for ages, but I'm with Sirius. It was too late. Wasn't it?
"Wow," he sighs breathlessly.
"Yeah. Wow." I pause, looking for the right way to phrase my lie. "What if I break up with Sirius? I'd rather go out with you."
His eyes are as wide as Galleons. "Really? You'd actually do that for me?"
"Sure." Yes, I'll go out with him, but that doesn't mean I have to break up with Sirius. We dated in secret before, why can't we do it again?
But I still have to pretend I'm breaking up with him. I walk back into the Common Room, perching on the arm of Sirius' chair.
"Hey, babe," he greets me, winding an arm around my waist.
I wriggle away. "Sirius, I just kissed James."
He looks at me blankly, obviously not seeing a problem with this.
"Sirius, I'm breaking up with you."
"Oh." Now it's sunk in. He's looking up at me with those gorgeous puppy eyes, as though wondering what he did to deserve such a terrible punishment.
"Sirius. Um, tomato."
He nods sadly, but I know he understands. 'Tomato' is our code word for 'meet me on the fourth floor tonight'. There's no way I'm breaking up with Sirius Black, the most wanted boy at Hogwarts, for someone like James.
