"Mommy! Daddy!" A five-year-old Korra exclaimed, running up to her parents, who were enjoying a cup of tea in the kitchen of their small home. She was bouncing on her toes, grinning wildly and hiding her small hands behind her back.
"Look what I can do!"
Korra cupped her hands and the widest grin plastered on her lips. A small spark of fire erupted from her dark fingertips, and Korra continued bouncing in place as she thrust her hands out in front of her. "I can bend fire! Look! Looooook!"
Tonraq raised an eyebrow and dropped a jaw at his young girl, and then at his wife. "Is there…something you're not telling me?" He leaned in, lips forming a hard line.
Senna stared at her husband in shock, and then disgust as she slammed the cup of brew down onto the table, completely unaware of the hot tea that quickly ravaged along the bench. "What!?"
"Momma!" Korra cried. Her voice was ignored.
"You think I'm having an affair!?" Senna growled, clenching her hands into tight fists. "You're ridiculous!"
Tonraq stood up, slamming the table with his fist. "Yes! Look at her! Korra's fire bending! How can you explain that? I can't even bend!"
"I am not having an affair, Tonraq! I can't explain why she's fire bending! Maybe we were fire benders in our past lives and it's just now showing up!"
"That's not true! We're all of water tribe heritage! You're cheating on me!"
"I am not!"
"What!?" Both parents spat, turning towards the little girl beside them. Korra's lip was formed into a little pout and she no longer expressed her talent as she watched the adults in front of her. "Why are you yelling?" Korra frowned, walking over to the table and raising an arm to move the water back into its original container. Her finger's trailed across the wood, pulling along every little droplet of tea that had spilled earlier.
Senna and Tonraq gawked. What their eyes had just perceived was completely out of the ordinary, and wildly strange. Was she bending water now, too? Just how many elements could Korra manipulate?
Tonraq turned to his own tea. He picked up the glazed clay molding full of liquid and dumped its contents onto the ground.
Senna stepped back. "What do you think you're doing?"
"Korra, put that back in my cup."
She was really confused now – her parents must be going insane. First, she thought, they argue over her fire capabilities (which she, in fact, thought was downright awesome), and now her father is asking her bend the tea back into his cup after purposefully spilling it all over the wooden floor? She scrunched her eyebrows.
"Because I spilled it."
"No, you didn't."
"Korra, just do it."
With a huff, she did as her father asked. Every second that jasmine tea seemed to wave in the air, Senna and Tonraq were actually going crazy; their daughter was the Avatar! Who else on earth could possibly bend more than one element?
