Lucy woke up the next morning to sun light in her face. She scrunched her face in dismay and scooted back in the bed to avoid the assault on her closed eyes and tried to fall back into sleep. It was a lost cause, though, because she backed up into Natsu's warmth and all she could think of was their bodies touching. By that point, her thoughts and heart were going too fast for her to retain her sleepiness, so she gave up with a sigh.
"What are you sighing about?"
Lucy opened her eyes to see Natsu propped up on his elbow and watching her. She felt an instinctive embarrassed jolt in her stomach at the knowledge that they were both naked before smiling and reminding herself that he had watched her undress the night before.
"Because I wanted to sleep some more, but you're too hot and now I'm too awake," she answered, complaining halfheartedly.
"I'm sorry, should we turn the air conditioning on higher tonight?" Natsu asked, looking eager to make sure she was comfortable. His earnestness was always so adorable. It made her want to cover him in kisses. She wanted to lean forward and act on her impulse, but she had noticed that he seemed to like single, meaningful kisses.
She laughed, "I didn't mean that kind of hot, Dork."
His expression was confused for a few minutes before he got it, "Oh."
She couldn't help but laugh again as Natsu hooked his arm around her and drew her in towards him, "Then, c'mere, Wife."
"Okay, Husband," She said, though she didn't really have that much say in the matter. She pressed up into him as he leaned over, his mouth just over hers. His eyes were soft and so full of tenderness that she swallowed hard when their gazes met.
"I love you," he said.
"I love you, too," she answered, her voice breaking despite herself with emotion.
His face lit up with a mischievous grin and then he squeezed her inappropriately, capturing her startled noise in a kiss that made her insides burn and thighs press together.
What a way to start the day, Lucy thought a little hazily, still dazed as they got up and dressed. With a small, satisfied grin, she imagined what the rest of their married life would be like. It was a short lived, though, the smile wiped from her face when she remembered that she didn't have that much longer with him.
Later, Lucy sat with Erza in the hotel lobby. The redhead would be leaving soon, so Lucy wanted to take advantage of the time they had left. They'd talked about a lot of things, how the guild was doing. How Levy was dying to get more chapters of the book. How the wedding was wonderful. From there, the conversation took a more personal, embarrassing turn.
"Ah…uhm…Erza," Lucy said, her voice growing serious.
Erza sat up straighter at her tone, apparently taking the worst idea, "What? What is it? Has your condition worsened?"
"Well, I do have headaches a lot more frequently and I feel weaker," Lucy said, raising her hands in a soothing gesture, "But, that's not what I wanted to talk about. I'm fine at the moment…but I wanted to talk about my…uh…intimate…relationship with…Natsu."
Erza stared at her blankly for a few moments before her face blazed red. Lucy's faced blazed red as well and then they both babbled like idiots, trying to move the conversation forward, for several moments before they were able to calm down and act like adults. It was Erza's sentence that came out clear first, "A-ah, what was it that you wanted to – ah – talk about?"
"Well," Lucy said, her voice quiet with embarrassment. She gestured with her hands feebly for a few moments, until she became frustrated with herself and just blurted out the issue, "Natsu and I didn't have sex last night."
"Why not?" Erza asked, curiosity overcoming her embarrassment.
"I got scared," Lucy admitted. She looked at the chair she sat in to avoid becoming too mortified to speak, "It's not that I'm scared of Natsu. I would never be. It's just…I'm scared to fail. I want to be wonderful and confident and prepared. I want it to be the best thing ever."
Erza cleared her throat. Her face was red, but her voice was steady, "Firstly, you're putting way too much pressure on this. The first time will definitely be awkward. You're both new to this and have to learn how to get better. It's like how it was with magic. You weren't as good at it in the beginning as you are now, were you?"
Lucy shook her head, amazed at her knowledge and listening to her with open admiration.
"The most important thing is communication," Erza continued. "You have to tell each other what you like and don't like. It's something you will learn together and become closer through."
"Erza, do you…have you…?"
Erza's face blazed the deepest red yet. She crossed her arms and looked up to the right, her words coming out fast, "N-no! I've just read a lot of books on it, because I was curious."
"Really? You have books?"
The redhead nodded.
"Can I borrow them?"
"I'll send them in the mail."
#49 C'mere, Wife
(Lol, this chapter was really fun to write. I was smiling like an idiot the whole time)
