A/N: This is…very random. It goes from special chickens to Freya to Morgana being a Merthur shipper. Just a warning. I don't own Merlin.
"Real life is just so…so…"
"Yes. Exactly," Morgana said. "You seem to understand so well, Merlin. Just empathetic, I guess, but there's a wisdom to you."
"No, I know how you feel, Morgana. I feel like that all the time. I feel like…maybe I could do something great if I weren't always attending to Arthur," Merlin said.
They were standing against a wall in a corridor, watching people walk by and keeping their voices low. Merlin and Morgana both enjoyed the thrill of talking about something so important in a public place.
"You could do something great. You're destined for something great, I can see it in your eyes," Morgana said. "But Merlin…the things we could do together. We could…I don't know. We could make magic acceptable, save druids…steal from the rich, give to the poor? Create special chickens."
"Special chickens?" Merlin asked, laughing.
"Yes," Morgana said, nodding and sticking her chin out as if offering a challenge.
"And what would these special chickens do?"
"No matter how many times you eat them, they stay alive."
"Wouldn't that hurt them, though? If you keep ripping hunks of meat off of them-"
"It would grow back." Morgana laughed, then grew solemn. "Merlin, really though. We should run away, get away from Arthur and Uther and their boy drama…maybe take Gwen!"
When Morgana said 'boy drama', it struck Merlin that she thought of him more as a girl. She thought of him as being like Gwen.
That hurt a bit, because no matter how well he hid it he was head over heels for Morgana. She was so beautiful, and sweet, and smart…he really did love her.
Or maybe he was rebounding from Freya, but either way he thought of her as more than a Gwen.
Merlin shook his head.
"No?" Morgana asked, putting a hand on his shoulder. "Why?"
"You'll be great on your own," Merlin said, looking up and meeting her eyes. "You will. You'll be able to do everything on your own. You won't need me. You're…extraordinary, Morgana. That's the only way to put it. You're extraordinary in an ordinary world, and you'll be able to break out on your own."
"There's something else."
"No, there isn't, and Gaius needs me soon."
"There's something else, Merlin, and you're not going anywhere until you tell me."
"I promised another girl I would run away with her and she ended up dead. Can I go now?" Merlin asked, tears starting to rise.
Morgana's hand fell from his shoulder, and he turned to go.
He made it a few steps before she spun him around, obviously aided by magic, and kissed him.
"I'm sorry," she said after she was done.
"Why do women always say that to me after they kiss me?" Merlin asked himself. "Am I that bad?"
"That's been welling up since Mordred. And…it won't happen again, I promise. I know you have duties to Arthur, and I know that you…care about him quite a bit. But…I'm always here for you, you know that, don't you?"
"Yeah," he said. How was everything going so wrong? No, he didn't care about Arthur! He did, but…It wasn't worth explaining to her. She could just think whatever she wanted. "Thanks."
Morgana smiled a bit sadly at his back, and then swept off to find Gwen.
