"I can't believe I let you talk me into this" Kate says rolling her eyes as she puts her suitcase on their bed.
"Oh come on you act as if you haven't needed a break from the precinct." Castle says as he takes her suitcase from where she placed it and put it away for her. Beckett held back the smile for his kind favor.
"It could have waited." She says meaning more than just taking a break from work which turns something in Castles gut. He hates the fact that she doesn't want to try and work at their relationship, that she still wants to push things aside, wait. Castle chances a look at her. She's standing there playing with her fingernails nervously. He can't help but love her even more for looking so cute in that exact moment, that being the reason he says what he is about to say.
"Well I've missed you." He knows there was so much weight on his words, so much. So much he has been trying to fight from saying because every time he does say something in that general area of their relationship it always ends with an argument no matter what.
She finally looks up at that and tries to hide the hint of guilt that wash's over her.
"I'm going to take a shower." Castles heart sinks at that. The distance she keeps putting between them, the caring, the love, swept away from her.
"Of course" Castle says numbly pointing to where the bathroom is located, trying to cover up the pain that she brings him with an all too plastic smile. He can see it in her eyes that she can tell what she's doing to him, which kills him even more, knowing that she knows and still doesn't do anything about it to help.
Once Kate got into the bathroom she let loose the tears that have been at the brim of her eyes. She is so sick of doing this to them. Being so cold, so heartless. He disserves better, he always has. But she knows he wont go down without a fight or two, maybe even three. He's the most stubborn man she has ever known. Sounds like someone else she knows…
She's beginning to forget why it is exactly that she's being so distant from him but then she remembers. She hates herself for it too. Hate's every fiber in her body, that she is too coward to just tell him what's going on in her mind, why she has been so… disconnected.
They have always been in sync. Always knowing what's on the others mind, but now things have just been clouded between them.
While Rick waits for Kate to get out of the shower he looks around the room for something to entertain him the time being. His eyes land on the radio system. He makes his way to it turning it on and once the first lyrics of the old song flows through him he nearly laughs at how typical it is for a song like this to come on.
-Smile though your heart is aching
Smile even though its breaking
When there are clouds in the sky, you'll get by
If you smile through your fear and sorrow
Smile and maybe tomorrow
You'll see the sun come shining through for you.
"Curse you Nat King Cole" Castle whispers to himself as he sits down on the leather seat right by one of the many speakers. He almost wants Beckett to be listening to the song, actually is almost sure she can. Considering they are in a hotel with surround sound.
Right as Beckett is putting in the nicely scented shampoo she hears the song that comes on. She internally laughs, how appropriate. If only it weren't how they were both feeling, she would probably actually enjoy the song. At the moment though while she is taking her shower that is already bringing on more then enough depressing thoughts, she would really appreciate if this song wasn't playing along in the background on top of all of it. She is just about to put shaving cream on when the ending of the song comes.
-That's the time you must keep on trying
Smile, what's the use of crying?
You'll find that life is still worthwhile, if you just smile.
That actually brings a small sad smile onto Kate's lips, thinking about her and Castle and how they can make it through this. They make it through everything together, always have.
Castle takes in the last of the lyrics and smiles to himself as well. Still keeping his hopes up on his plans of wooing his soon to be wife into falling for him all over again. Surely it can't be that hard? They always find their way in the end.
Review, let me know how this is turning out. I have ideas for this so I'll be writing more on this!
