Xander almost dropped to his knees as he stepped out into the terminal, he was so glad to finally have the ground beneath his feet again. It felt like he'd been on the plane for over a week. He rolled his shoulders and neck trying to work out the kinks. As he stretched his eyes scanned the crowd in the terminal looking for the familiar face of Dawn–who was supposed to be meeting him.
He frowned not seeing her at first, but as his eyes swept the crowd again, he saw the sign reading: Welcome home, Xander Harris! written in a rainbow of colours.
A lopsided grin curved his lips seeing the sign–which was held up obscuring his view of the girl's face. Her body however was fully visible and Xander couldn't help but notice how much more filled out it was since he last saw her–a lot had changed in a year.
Xander shook himself, reminding himself who was attached to that body and how he had no right to notice how it had developed.
"Dawnie!" he called out, starting off in her direction.
The sign came down to reveal her face, a huge smile spread across it and an ear splitting scream emitted from her mouth as she jumped up and down and ran his way.
Xander smiled–now there was the girl he remembered.
He let out a whoompf! as Dawn collided into him, flinging her arms around his neck and squeezing the life out of him–she almost hugged him as hard as Buffy.
"Omigod, ohmigod, ohmigod, it's sooo good to see you! Never go away again!"
Xander laughed, wrapping his arms around her in return.
"It's good to see you too, Dawnie," he replied.
The embrace lingered for a few moments longer than strictly necessary and when it was finally becoming too hard for Xander to ignore just how nice it felt having Dawn's body pressed against his, he pulled away.
He cleared his throat, stepping back.
"My god, look at you!" Dawn remarked. "You're so... tan!"
Xander chuckled, shaking off his discomfort. "Yeah, man I thought California was sunny, but it has nothing on Africa."
"But hey, check you out," he said. "How is it possible that you got even taller? If you don't stop growing, soon you and eye are going to be eye to eye."
"Or mouth to mouth," Dawn countered coyly.
Xander's mouth fell open slightly and Dawn's normally sweet smile turned seductive–no, this was definitely not the same little girl he had known. Not at all.
