Seeley Booth glanced over at the Ravenclaw table, at the Brennan girl eating lunch with her friends. Temperance Brennan, her name was, and he'd heard that her parents had disappeared fifth year over Christmas break, leaving her in a muggle foster home. Her brother had been a troublemaker when he had been at Hogwarts, a Gryffindor like Seeley. But he had hopped the pond, looking for work in the States.

Brennan kept to herself mostly, besides her few friends. Zach Addy and Jack Hodgins were both Ravenclaws like Brennan, Addy being a first year she'd taken a liking to, and he was forever trying to impress her. Angela Montenegro was a Hufflepuff, seemingly constantly doodling in a sketchbook she carried round with her. And that was the extent of Brennan's friends. Seeley hoped to become Brennan's friend, but it was proving difficult. Only Montenegro seemed receptive to him, Hodgins tended to ignore him, and Brennan and Addy were so smart they didn't care about his feelings when they told him to go away. But bloody hell was she pretty. If Seeley hadn't known better, he'd have sworn Brennan was part Veela. Montenegro thought they'd make a cute couple, so she was the only ally he had to getting Brennan's attention.

He ambled over to the Hufflepuff table and peered over Montenegro's shoulder. She was sketching the outlines of two people with their arms slung on each other's shoulders. He wondered if it might turn into her and Hodgins, he knew they had a sort of thing going. She had dragged him to Madame Puddifoot's last Hogsmeade trip. Seeley had grinned when he spotted Addy waving in jest.

"Booth, you know I don't like you looking at my drawings before they're finished." She told him, still sketching.

"Hey, think you can make it so that'll move, like the paintings around here?"

"I don't know if I want it to move."

"You just being contrary, Montenegro?" He asked, folding his arms but smiling.

"Maybe." She closed her sketchbook. "What brings you over here, anyway?"

"Just thinking about Brennan."

"As always." She teased. "You're always welcome to hang out with us. Most days we're on the Forbidden Forest side of the lake."

"Except Brennan and Addy will tell me in no uncertain terms just how unwelcome I am."

"Can't you ever talk with her during class?"

"Nope." He popped his lips on the 'P'.

"Ask her questions, she loves to show off."

"Not for me, she finds me annoying."

"You have a little brother, right? Try bringing him round."

"Ok, I'll give it a go. Remember, Montenegro, this is your idea."

Seeley walked back to the Gryffindor table, glancing at Jared, who was chatting up a girl named Sarah Grace. Jared was only a few years younger than him, currently a fourth-year.
