Come On Down
By – Hime no Ichigo
Pairings: Masaomi (x Saki)
Story Type: Drabble
Summary: The rain is always welcome if it can hide his true emotions.
Disclaimer: Durarara! is the intellectual property of Narita Ryougo.
Notes: This is from Toki's prompt: "under the rain". Ignoring canon. Combined with Kida's birthday on the 19th.
"Saki, I'm stepping out to get us a new lightbulb."
"I'll come with you."
"It's okay, it's just the convenience store at the corner. You stay here and reset the clocks when the power comes back on, I'll be back really soon."
"...All right, please hurry though."
The rain had steadily come down for a few hours now, worsening in the last several minutes, before their apartment couldn't take it anymore and decided to plunge them into total darkness while they were in the middle of eating a birthday cake. Saki had groaned as soon as the lights went out, because just before, Kida had been laughing and smearing her face with cream.
An umbrella was useless in these windy thunderstorms, as the blond huddled into his hooded jacket and ran to the store, staying as close as he could under the shutters. He forced the door open, the automatic system failing to respond to his motions. He sped down the aisles, overly familiar with the layout, and hastily dropped the money at the register. He knew Saki didn't deal too well with the dark alone, but he'd rather she stayed safe and dry inside.
Their low-profile lives were growing tiresome for Kida, who preferred and loved the action-filled and suspenseful ones of the city. Yet staying out here, away from trouble, was the better decision. He supposed he should be thankful he at least had internet connection to stay in contact with the select few he was still emotionally attached to.
Something vibrated in his pocket, and he immediately snatched it up. Force of habit, he ignored the display and went straight to the message, and stopped in his tracks, just six steps away from the main door to the apartment.
Kida closed his eyes and smiled, bittersweet, as the rain continued to pelt at his face, merciless in its attempt to drown him.
Why am I here?

Authoress' Notes: Why does everything I write involving Kida turn out angsty. :(
