Chapter 1 - Beauty

Theo sipped at his butterbeer and gazed around the room, taking in the scene before him. He was in a foul mood and it was darkening by the minute; he had no idea why he had come to this stupid ball. Suddenly, he caught a glance of green silk out of the corner of his eye.

His foul mood disappeared instantly as he stared at her. She was beautiful—somewhere in his mind he had always known that, but tonight she looked absolutely breathtaking; that dress fitted her perfectly. She stopped on the staircase and surveyed the room. There stood Daphne Greengrass, ice princess and, in his eyes, belle of the ball.

Her beauty was beyond compare, but he knew that he would never stand half a chance with her. In her eyes, she was far superior to him. He took another sip of his butterbeer and his mood darkened once more at his trail of thought.

The feeling of resignation hit him once more; no matter what he wanted, she would never consider him. He wanted more than a simple pureblood arranged marriage; he had seen where that road led and he wanted more, but to him, Daphne would be forever unattainable.
