Katherine knocked on the door to the Newsboy's Lodging House once and then peered around, waiting. Her boyfriend was taking his time, as usual. After what seemed like an eternity (she was an impatient girl), the battered door swung open, and out walked a very sleepy Jack Kelly, rubbing his eyes and yawning.

Katherine beamed brightly, and Jack blinked as if he couldn't believe she was up at this hour of the morning.

"Oh. Hey." Jack was still too tired to say anything of any real consequence, but this was as good as it was going to get.

They stood there for a moment, Katherine still beaming like crazy.

"What?" Jack finally asked.

"I got a bicycle!" Katherine exclaimed, and practically pulled Jack down the road to where it sat.

Jack looked around. He was tired, but not tired enough that he couldn't see.

"Where is it?" he suppressed another yawn.

"YEAHHHHH!" Katherine and Jack frantically jumped out of the way as Race and Specs rode by on the gleaming bike. The wheels sloshed through a puddle of mud, splattering both Katherine and Jack. Specs and Race whizzed by, and Jack pulled his girlfriend close so she wouldn't get hit.

They stared into each other's eyes, and, on a whim, kissed.

"I'll tell them to give the bike back," Jack said after a moment.
