AMOC Chapter 27: Repercussions

Waking up in my bed was a nice change from the day before, especially with the absence of pain swirling in my head. Rolling over onto my side I was disappointed to see I was alone. Last night Jacob refused my offer of some fun between the sheets and argued it was best that I get plenty of rest. At first I felt slightly rejected but when he pulled me into his strapping arms and held me tightly I understood he was worried about my well being.

"Morning sunshine." Jake called out.

His voice was warm and soothing to my ears. It was like pouring syrup over hot pancakes. I just wanted to eat him up.

"Morning." I smiled.

"I hate to rush you but I just received a call from Paul that Dad has requested our presence at his house as soon as possible." Jake said.

"Oh. I hope there isn't more bad news. I don't mean to sound ungrateful but I'm really growing weary of the constant chaos since we got married." I yawned.

"I know. Trust me, I know." He chuckled roughly.

"Do I have time to jump in the shower?" I asked as I got out of the bed.

"Yes. I've already gotten Charlotte up. She is eating her cereal downstairs in the kitchen."

"K. I will be quick." I mumbled as I made way to the closet and grabbed some garments before heading to the bathroom.

Twenty minutes later I was washed up, dressed and even put a little bit of makeup to attempt at hiding the bags under my eyes. When I came downstairs I was pleased to see Jake and Charlotte were waiting by the door with identical smiles on their faces. Both were pleased to see me up and well.

"Let's go." I said while smiling back at the two most important people in my world.

The drive over was pleasantly quiet. When we entered Billy's home however, we were met with cries and shouting.

"How could you do that!" Rachel shouted but ended with a loud sob.

"It was my place. I know you don't agree with my decision but it was mine to be made." Billy replied back sternly.

"What's going on?" Jake asked as we walked into the living room.

"Dad had Becca cremated. He didn't think she was worthy enough to be buried." Rachel answered furiously.

"You did what?" Jake's mouth nearly hit the ground as he stared at his father with shock.

"Look, I didn't think it was necessary for any of us to have to suffer through a public funeral. You know the whole town would show up just to see how we each reacted to her death." Billy explained.

"But Dad we didn't even get to say our goodbyes." Rachel weeped.

"Goodbyes? Do you think she would've have felt the same way had she killed Bella or your brother? Look, I just want to get past this. I want the whole town to forget it ever happened. Jake and Bella have to go to court soon and I don't want everyone still talking about their ties to an unstable family. It's done. We can't undo it now."

"Dad, I understand why Rachel is so distraught over this. Although I hate that she tried to kill my wife, but I still loved her." Jake explained.

"I did too. That's why I called Simon who agreed with my decision and informed Bryce about the mess his mother made and how it killed her."

"This is crazy!" Rachel flung herself into Paul's arms. He held her and remained quiet like me as the siblings discussed their father's decision.

"The urn will be here tomorrow. I thought we could have a private ceremony here at the house. If anyone asks, you can tell them it's already been done and that way they can move on with something new to gossip about." Billy stated firmly.

I could see the sadness in his eyes and the toll it had taken on his health. He looked awful. His face was pale, a few extra wrinkles appeared around his eyes, and his body seemed more fragile than before all of this. I felt awful. If I hadn't gone along with the marriage to Jake, this family might have still been intact.

"I'm so sorry." I heard myself saying out loud.

Four sets of eyes turned toward me. I knew they didn't blame me entirely but on some level they had to think for a brief moment that my problems with Edward brought all of this pain onto them.

"Bella, Becca and Edward were...well...meeting with one another before you joined our family." Billy spoke up.

"How do you know that?" I asked curiously.

"I've been worried about her for sometime now. I hired someone a few months back to see where she was going and what she was doing when I learned that Bryce was often at home alone. I was informed she had a secret lover." He answered.

"You didn't tell us about it?" Rachel cried out.

"Why would I tell you? It wasn't any of our business who she slept with. As much as I loathed the idea of her with that despicable man, it was her life and her choice who she spent it with." Billy explained.

"I feel like this whole family is falling apart. Bit by bit." Rachel moaned as she walked over to the couch and sat down, covering her face with her hands.

"Well, if it helps I can tell you that Bella and I have come to an understanding between us. We no longer want to be apart of the contract. Our marriage is binding not by it, but by our hearts." Jake announced, grabbing my hand and squeezing it gently as our eyes locked.

"Uh?" Paul and Rachel mumbled in unison.

"I love Jake. I don't care about the money or the contract I signed before. I WANT to be married to him." I explained as I slid my hands up his chest and around his neck.

"I WANT to be married to Bella too. I don't need my inheritance. I love her because she completes me and makes me want to be a better man." Jake replied just as our lips met.

The kiss was short and sweet but I felt the surge of his love with each stroke of his tongue against mine.

"I knew it!" Billy yelped with joy.

"You knew what?" Jake asked.

"I always thought you would fall for one another but you needed something to bring you together. I didn't like that it took money, a contract and a mutual enemy like Edward to do it, but it worked out in the end. I'm so proud of you both." Billy cried out as tears slithered down his frail cheeks.

Billy approached us both with arms wide open. The three of us hugged as Paul and Rachel joined us.

"I'm so glad you guys are in love but how is this going to help your case now that Edward has his hands on the contract?" Rachel asked out loud as we all stepped out of the circle.

"Simple. We explain it was a pre-nup that Billy wrote up to assure they were truly in love. After all it wouldn't be the first time a family of influence would request an outsider to agree to some terms before being allowed to join the family." Paul replied with a smug smile on his face.

"I like that." Billy agreed and patted Paul on the back.

"I do too." I agreed.

"Okay, so we tell everyone it was Becca's wishes to be cremated. If anyone asks, Billy had Jake and Bella sign a prenup to protect both parties should it not work out." Paul announced.

"Exactly." Jake nodded his head before circling my waist with his arm and pulling me up against him. We shared a quick kiss on the lips.

"I know this is suppose to be a sad occasion but I'm happy for you guys." Rachel wiped the corners of her eyes as she flashed me a knowing smile.

"I feel the same way." I sighed.

Billy suggested we all share a drink of remembrance for his daughter while celebrating the joyous news of our newfound love for one another. We all needed the drink to help soothe the last few rough days we shared.

The sound of my phone ringing reminded me that there was still much more that lied ahead for us.

I answered the call out in the hallway as the rest of the family talk about Rebecca and how they would miss her, despite her last moments of a mad woman.

"Hello." I answered.

The voice on the other end informed me in a proper tone that my court date with Edward had been moved up. My attorney explained that someone made a special request and the judge was willing to come back from his vacation a few days earlier than planned. This didn't sound good. In fact, it appeared someone with money and clout encouraged the judge. I knew Billy wasn't behind this, so that only left the Cullens. I agreed we would meet with him first thing in the morning to go over the latest details. Feeling less happier as I did moments before I reentered the room trying to hide it.

"Who was that?" Jake asked curiously as he refilled my glass.

"That was my attorney. He would like to meet with us first thing in the morning." I answered.

"Oh. Is everything okay?" Jake asked.

"I guess. Apparently the judge is willing to return from his vacation earlier than planned and has moved up our court date." I answered.

"Well that is interesting. I'm sure it will be okay. I mean, what else can Edward possibly have over us now?" Jake cupped my face between his hands and pressed his lips against mine.

"Right. There is nothing else possible for him to use against us." I agreed despite the nagging fear that remained within the pit of my stomach.

The second the police released me I made my way across town to Laurens. Sitting in a cell for twenty-four hours gave me time to contemplate all my options. Becca got me in this mess and I wasn't going to let another slut ruin things further.

"Hey. I'm glad you got out." Lauren smiled nervously at me with the door half opened.

"Are you?"

"Yes. Of course. Why wouldn't I?"

"Because I'm starting to think that people who once swore their loyalty to me are about to jump ship when things get hard. I'm going to warn you now, if you think about double crossing me I will tell Jacob the truth. I'm done messing around with you crazy ass women. So let me make this crystal clear. You betray me, I reveal everything about your so called abortion and the paternity of that child."

Lauren gulped hard as she turned a deathly shade of white.

"Don't! Don't do that Edward. It will only hurt everyone involved. I haven't done anything to betray you."

"Haven't you? You know as well as I do if Jacob strolled in here and offered to leave Bella and start a new life with you, you would walk away from our arrangement. I'm not a fool Lauren. I know you still seek something from him that will never happen. He despises you and when he learns what you really did when you left town years ago, well, he will want to rip your throat out and piss down it." I snarled.

"Why do you do this? Why can't you just let it ALL go! Bella isn't worth you going around threatening people or pushing them into killing for you." Lauren cried out, her hands curling up into fists at her sides.

"Shut up!" I demanded.

"NO! You listen here Edward. I won't back down from our plans but you need to take a long deep look at yourself. You say you hate Bella and only want to take her child to hurt her and to provide your family with the grandchild they desire. But the way you are acting makes me wonder if you are jealous that Jacob got something from Bella that you will never have."

"OH and what the hell is that?" I snorted.

"Respect. She respects, trust and loves him and you can't handle that. Once again Jacob is the better man between the two of you and it infuriates you."

My hand flew out and struck her across the face leaving a dark red mark. She took a step back and covered her cheek with her hand. Tears filled her eyes as she looked at me as if I was a monster.

"I'm...its just….Lauren I mean it. You will not speak a word about this or anything else or I will tell the Black family everything!"

I didn't give her a chance to respond. I needed to get away from her before she said something else that would send me in a rage. Women. They were all useless little bitches who deserved whatever came their way when they crossed a man. Taking off to my house I decided it was time to push up my plans. It was time to hurt everyone who turned their backs on me. When it was all said and done then I would have my revenge on Bella, Jacob and both families.
