Disclaimer: I do not own Dead Poets Society, otherwise I wouldn't be writing fanfiction.
It all starts one afternoon when Neil, in an attempt to make Todd smile, writes 'I love you' on a sticky note and slaps in on Todd's forehead while they're studying together on Todd's bed.
"Neil." Todd laughs, pulling the sticky note from his forehead to read it.
"What?" Neil asks innocently.
"I love you too." Todd says, giving Neil a kiss.
And yeah, it's all a bit silly, but Todd hangs on to the sticky note.
One evening, close to a month later Todd places the sticky note on Neil's pillow while Neil is brushing his teeth. When Neil returns to the room and finds the sticky note sitting on his pillow he smiles fondly at Todd and kisses him.
It becomes a thing, after that, for the sticky note to switch hands every so often, popping up in folded pajamas or tucked between bed sheets, a kiss always accompanying these findings.
The sticky note always switched hands in their dorm room, so kissing is never a problem. Until one day in study hall when Todd opens his chemistry textbook to find the sticky note covering up questions 4 through 9 of chapter 8. Todd lets out a strangled gasp, shutting his textbook with a snap before starting to cough in an attempt to cover up the weird spasm he just experienced. Neil looks up from his work and gives Todd a concerned look with the slightest hint of a knowing smirk on his face.
"Are you alright Mr. Anderson?" Mr. McAllister asks from the front of the room.
"Yes, sir." Todd coughs, blushing.
When Todd's coughs don't die down Neil says. "Mr. McAllister, sir, I think I should take him to the nurse. He looks like he might be running a fever or something too."
"Yes, very well then." Mr. McAllister says, looking over Todd, who is no longer coughing, but is bright red, his face burning with embarrassment.
In the hallway, with the classroom door closed behind them Todd turns to Neil as they walk and asks. "What the hell was that?"
"I was giving you the sticky note?"
"Yeah, I got that. But what was I supposed to do about it? I can't kiss you in the middle of study hall."
"Well, we're not in study hall anymore." Neil smirks.
"Dear god, do have no control over your hormones?"
"Todd…." Neil sighs. "I'm a teenage boy."
"Yeah well, so… am… I."
"And you want to kiss me right now, don't you?" Neil asks, although he already knows the answer.
Todd just nods. Neil smirks and practically drags Todd to their room, not having to worry about anyone seeing them since everyone is in class. In the safety of their room, they kiss, and there's a certain sort of thrill behind it, lying their way out of study hall to make out. And Todd kind of likes that.
