Daniel was pacing the length of his office, clearly having an internal clash. Occasionally, he would stop, shake his head, and continue treading the well-worn path. He spun at the sound of a tap on the door.

There stood Kate, looking perplexed. "Hey, Daniel," she said, a frown creasing her porcelain features. "I just got your message, sorry, I got here as fast as I could. What's wrong?" she asked, walking into the room and perching on the edge of his desk.

Daniel had ceased his agitated wandering and now stood before her like a child about to admit to a shameful misconduct.

"Everything," he said, a short, labored response.

Kate, now even more concerned, stood and placed her hands on his shoulders, searching to meet his eyes as he stubbornly avoided catching hers.

"Hey!" she said, shaking him a bit. "What is it? You can tell me. That's why I'm here."

Daniel's eyes filled with tears. "I can't," he said, his voice breaking.

Kate looked surprised, and hurt. "Of course you can..." she murmured, more to herself than to him, her face twisted with distress.

Daniel shook his head, pulling away from her and pacing yet again. "No... no, I can't... you wouldn't, you don't..."

Growing more angry than anxious, Kate grabbed hold of him and said, "God dammit, Daniel! Why do you do this to me? I am here, always, what is it going to take for you to believe that I'm on your side? Tell me; I really want to know," she ranted. "Why can't you just-"

His eyes were full of agony as he stared down at Kate, searching her eyes as she glared up heatedly. He found himself aroused by the pressure of her grip on his arms, and, in a quick, decisive movement, Daniel bent towards the girl before him and crushed his lips against hers.

Kate's infuriated words were cut off with a gasp, her anger melted by the feeling he gave her.

There was a warmth coursing through Daniel's skin, a warmth that reached a burning climax when she kissed him back, her hands sliding from his shoulders up to caress his neck, to touch his face. His hands were on her waist; they tightened for a moment with the briefest of spasms as she bit his bottom lip, tugging slightly. Daniel couldn't believe it could all be so simple.

Nothing was wrong anymore. And he could feel her realize this with every beat his heart gave, pounding against his ribs, pounding into her chest. His heart belonged to her, it had for a while. And nothing could ever be wrong again.
