VMC period 3

The Cake Is a Lie

The voice in the walls shakes me awake

"It's your birthday, have some cake."

It was hollow, and cold, so I can't tell if she's lying.

But I open my eyes, and hope that she's trying

"Bad news, sleepy head,"

She says, robotic arms making my bed.

"I was lying, to get you up, it's not your birthday,

But have some cake anyway."

I made my way to the elevator tube,

Hoping that one of these days she'll be less rude.

I landed in a test chamber, hoping for something,

"You're late, there was no cake, so get to testing."
