Good Days, Better Tomorrows
It was a cold day in December of 1977 and the Hogwarts' express was pulling into the Kings Cross station, dropping of all the students who were going home for the Christmas holidays.
"Padfoot, I've told you a million times, I did not dose her pumpkin juice with Armortentia!" James Potter said in an irritated voice.
"But Prongsssss!" Sirius protested childishly.
"Might I point out that it would be almost impossible for James to get any Armortentia?" Lily Evans cut in, getting tired of their ridiculous banters.
"That still doesn't account for the fact that you two were enemies on day and dating the next." Remus pointed out. James grinned.
"All is possible in the doings of magic and men."
"I believe the saying is mice and men."
"Yes, well, mice are useless." Sirius commented off-handedly.
"Hey!" Peter Pettigrew, who had kept mostly silent up until then, protested. They all laughed. Lily got her trunk down from the luggage rack as did the four boys.
"Are you sure you don't want me to carry your trunk, Evans?" James asked, jokingly as they walked down the platform towards the barrier between worlds.
"Absolutely not, Potter." she snarled, mock glaring at him. They both laughed.
They approached the barrier and peter was the first to go through, muttering a quick goodbye to the marauders and Lily. Next went Remus, then Sirius, then James and Lily.
"James!" a gleeful Mrs. Potter cried when she spotted her son, giving him a hug. "and you must be Lily, jams has told us a lot about you."
"Mum!" James said, looking down. Lily blushed.
"It's nice to meet you Mrs. Potter." she said politely. Mrs. Potter smiled.
"Please call me Dorea." Lily nodded.
"Mrs. P. how good to see you!" Sirius said coming up to them, an expression somewhere between and smirk and a grin plastered on his face.
"And you too Sirius, always the charmer!" Mrs. Potter laughed. Sirius winked.
"I try." Lily rolled her eyes and the apparated to Potter manor.
"Wow, you house is...huge." Lily said a bit awed. James smiled at her modestly and led her inside. A house elf, which Lily learned name was Pimpsy, came to get their luggage and they followed Mrs. Potter into the sitting room.
"Now boys, I know you well enough to know that you can't sit still for a minute, ('unless Lily's doing something' Sirius interjected but Mrs. Potter ignored him) so quit pretending that you want to be here and go outside to play quidditch, Lily and i will have a nice little time to get to know each other in here."
"You're sure?" James asked."
"We'll be fine." Lily stressed. "Go play quidditch." James nodded and he and Sirius took off down some hallway.
"Now dear, why don't you come with me into the kitchen and I'll make us some tea..."
"It was fun today." Lily said. James smiled down at her. They were both in pajamas and Lily was snuggled in James' arms.
"What did mum talk to you about?" James asked.
"Oh, she just wanted to get to know me. She did tell me about a particular incident when you were eight and you're dad tried to take away your favorite teddy bear, what was it? Rumples?" James groaned.
"I swear, she insane." Lily giggled and snuggled into James arms a little more.
"Mothers are all slightly insane." he shook his head and sighed. They lay there for a few minutes just enjoying each others presence. Then James moved out from under Lily and stood up.
"I better leave before mum finds us. Goodnight."
"Goodnight James." she said. He kissed her sweetly one the lips and she leaned into it, before slowly pulling away.
"G'night." Lily yawned and lay down. James grinned and walked out of the room. Tomorrow, it'll be even better.
